I am using a cheapo $17 380 5100kv sized motor from himodel on 28T. On 3S lipo the top speed is just slightly lower than the 1/18 xcelorin 7400kv brushless motor with a 20T pinion. But the xcelorin motor overheats even with a fan. The cheapo 380 motor has much better acceleration (tons of it. my mlst can wheelie even a loose center diff). Although slower, I don't get heat problems anymore. The max temp haven't exceed 60c even in an ambient temp of 34C. I used a 35A ezrun brushless motor with it. So far no problem with the setup.

The only down side to it is its current draw. It can draw over 40A under very hard acceleration with a 28T pinion on a mini-lst. But that is only momentarily.
