If you're running this in a truggy, you're running the wrong motor. You should be running the 2200kv truggy motor at max, not the 2650 buggy motor. Personally I'd run the 1500-1700 in 4 to 5s before running a 3s setup in a truggy

why is it the wrong motor? Why must it be a 2200kv at max?
When I first started ordering motors for the conversion, I think I was looking at the 2.5D AND the 1.5D. Figured I'd try one first and see how it went, so I cancelled a motor from the shopping cart.
Only to find out after the order shipped that I had cancelled the 2.5D instead of the 1.5D. I spoke to Mike as well and he said that the 1.5D would be fine, but just to be aware that my battery and gearing options would be limited. He also informed me that the 1.5D is an amp-monster.
So far I haven't had any major problems with temps in my set-up.  I mean, aside from just this previous race session, my electronics have been happy. Average temps (on an 11T pinion) for everything were as follows:
motor: 126-135 (no fan)
ESC: 130-150 (MMM v3)
batt: 105-125 (3S, 5000mAh, 25C) - the 125 is usually after a rather vicious bashing session
Now bear in mind that most times when we run the ambient temps are usually hovering around 95-96 degrees.
I could be wrong, but I think the set-up is quite happy. For this race session, I moved up to a 14T pinion...which would explain the higher temps.
Am I misguided in thinking that the temps are ok?

The neu was probably ok, was it a 1515/1.5d? I was refering to the tekin motor, the 2650 is designed for the buggy not the truggy, its even listed on tekin's site as such. The highest kv motor on the truggy list is the 2200kv, Size wise, the truggy motor would be better at handling the load
As far as the temps, you seem to be ok. I was refering to the tekin motor being a buggy motor, you even said it run a bit warmer over the neu, I think it was because it was a smaller (shorter, as in a 1512) motor than the neu

affirmative...the motor is 1515/1.5D/F. Don't recall where I said the T8 ran warmer than the Neu...in fact, the temp was lower. 123F, if I remember correctly. :)
I have one last test remaining for the T8...if she fails to perform, it's off to the chopping block for her.

You were right, I misread the temps. I still think part of the problem with the tekin motor, is its designed for a buggy, so less power available and less torque from the input

HoBao Buggy rims, Losi Step Pins (silver compound)
Diffs: (most likely they will all be bumped up by 2K, but we shall see)

PolyQuest 2S, 25/50c 5100mAh

Hokay. So this weekend wasn't too bad. I got to run the buggy in another club main, and she did ok.
Correction to the diff fluid:
Center: 5K
Front: 3k
Rear: 1K
Spur: 46t Spider center diff
Ran the buggy on 3S (TP 40/80c 5000mAh), and she did alright. Also ran the T8 with out the sensor lead...seems to perform similar to a Neu. Didn't have too many problems with temps.
Motor: 142
ESC: 125
Batt: 105
Ran 2 10min mains. Not too bad, setup was still cogging a bit (a little more than the Neu). Power delivery is so-so. I ended up swapping out the R1-Pro for the RX8. The R1-Pro is a tough lil bugger for sure, but she's just not capable of handling the current draws of 4S. Either that, or my gearing was all out of whack.
But...overall, my observation still sticks from last weekend: I'll stick to Neu.
I also had a chance to run my X1-CRT in a couple of mains. I'm pleased to say that the RX8 didn't hiccup one bit on 4S and I was even doing well enough to place first in the three mains we ran. My mentor flamed out early, and I was able to hold my own against two Mugens and a X2-CRT.
The 4s (SMC 40C 5000mAh) is nuts...but interestingly enough, the temps were lower.
motor (Neu 1515/1.5D/F) : 125F (4s), 135 (3S)
ESC (RX8): 123 (4S), 126 (3S)
Batt: 4S: 105
3S: 120
SO...in closing, I am not too impressed with the T8 series. Perhaps I need to try a lower KV motor, but from what the 2650 has shown me, I am more incline to stick with the Neu. Although, to her credit, the T8 was an absolute monster on 4S in the buggy. First time I seen the buggy wheelie. Usually, with the Neu, I get nothing but wheelspin and paper plates. The T8 was a fraction less powerful than the Neu, which I think enabled the tires to hook up and loft the front end. Not too bad, but my vote is with Neu for now.
SO....anyone want to purchase a T8 2650kv motor from me?  I'll price it fairly. Open to trades as well.

True.
Then again, it also feels as if there is some lag in the drive train. I've checked my mesh and looked for stuff in the diffs, but I haven't found anything.
Eh...regardless. I now have a T8 motor that I'm looking to either sell or trade.

Well its quite obvious that the 1515 1.5D would win out in power because it is a bigger motor internally and equivalently a lower wind. A fair test would be your T8 against the 1512 1Y, which is the most simliar of the neu motors, and in fact, pretty identical internally. But just wait until the stiff wires on the Neu fatigue and cause a short, or dirt eventually gets into the holes. Those are two things you will not have to have to worry about or deal with/prevent with the tekin.
