I pulled the tranny to put the spool back in, and install the hardened idler gear from UE. Unfortunately, since I have a single-speed trans, the hardened gear won't work (too narrow). I assume it is for the 2-speed tranny?
I also took this opportunity to shim up the tranny. It took about .015" of shims on the input shaft (to eliminate end-play in the case), and about .010" of shims on the output shaft (to eliminate end-play in the case). I ran it a bit, and it is much quieter now. I used to hear lots from the spur vibrating back and forth, and now its all quiet. Awesome.
