Just this past weekend I acquired a Novak 17.5 (the regular one, forgot what they call it) at a really good price for my Blitz, which is currently running a Sidewinder. On 2s with HPI's recommended gearing my truck was about the same speed as with the stock Blitz motor but it had more torque. The 17.5 never broke about 90 deg F and the Sidewinder didn't get above ambient.

Last night I bumped it up to 4s, same gearing. It was fun and decently fast but still had good torque that was easy to control. Cogging became an issue with the Sidewinder but I too am planning on a MM Pro for the future.

As for the 2s limit, if their 17.5 shares the same construction as a motor with a lower turn (like a 7.5 or lower) then there's no reason you can't run 4s. 17.5 motors have a kv around 2200-2400 so on 4s they likely won't exceed 36,000 RPM. At that RPM I'd say it's pretty ideal.
