There are always ways to get your point across without "telling" someone what to do. You could also blame us, say "people online think the children may be at risk"

You can't blame an animal lover for loving animals. She was clearly just trying to help them. Just a shitty deal all around. Something needs to be said though. What if one of the kids is running around with a twinkie and the dog decides it wants the twinkie?

I hope I don't come across as callous. I grew up on a farm and witnessed the birth and death of animals 100 times over. I've pulled live lambs out of dead ewes. I would never intentionally hurt an animal, but I would never compromise my life/family/finances/dinner for an animal. Just me.

Good luck freeze, and never bring your kitty to your sisters place!
