That is true...when you're into a build time goes by fast and before you know it it's midnight and you haven't eatin' lunch or dinner...that's a great story to hear :)
So true, look up at the clock sometimes and think holy sh@t,I gotta go to bed or I'm never going to get up for work.
He was an older guy in his 50's,he said he spent close to 5k a month on booze. The only reason he started building them was a suggestion from one of his aa sponsors to find a hobby and keep his mind busy.
Its funny but that is what I tell people when they ask me why I spend so much on R/C. It is better than drinking, doing drugs or womanizing. Especially when you are married. I think that is a great story. If building R/C vehicles keeps him dry and sober then good for him.
I was sharing this thread with my wife and she was saying with so many R/C's why not setup a track and rent time to others who cannot aford to purchase big dollar R/C vehicles and let them tear up the track with your vehicles and have some fun. Bringing pleasure to others with your obsession. I sure wish we could aford that kind of dream. Good for him for having something that does not equate to doing crime or hurting someone else. WHatever his problems may be I think its great that he is turning it into something positive. Plus if he wakes up one morning and decides he is in too deep he can go crazy on ebay selling off most of it probably for what he paid for them. Nothing lost really. Not that it seems to make any difference to him though.
Well, I did not bother to watch the vid... I did own about 70 rc vehicles at one point. Down to maybe 30 right now. I am looking into buying another house, so i may have to sell off some of the others to get funds up! Buying and selling (and hoarding!!!) is alot of the fun in this hobby. If it keeps that guy sane who am I to judge? Plus somone has to keep buying nitros so I can pick them up in lightly used condition, sell off the nitro crap and get a smoking deal!
Needed a hobby to occupy himself? Never heard of Airfix then I take it
And Mikak- Jesus christ dude, no wonder its hard to find UE setbacks and Lightning chassis, you've got them all hanging on your wall! Stop being so selfish and sell all but one of each of your chassis/trucks- you could make an absolute fortune and free up valuable wall space at the same time!
Airfix? You mean the plastic models, right? Maybe the guy hates glue? I know I hate glue together models. Sticky fingers?!!!!
I like rc cause I can tinker and put things together and then go out and actully run it down the street at 40mph! Not sure if I would put these together if I was just going to stare at them...
I would put an add in the newspaper saying that I would put together funiture, etc for free if I was that bored... People could buy the stuff and drop it off at the house, then come back for it when I was done. Dunno, I hardly have the time to type this gibberish...
Sticky fingers eh? Guess we all know what you get upto in your spare time...
I like the furniture idea though, I've been helping my little sister & her boyfriend move into their new flat/ apartment and have been assemblign flatpack furniture and putting up blinds for them. Strangely enjoyable...
Linc, Your like a predator lying and waiting to pounce on a unsuspecting helpless creature. Nice job of spinning that around and making it sound dreadfully disgusting.
Hippy, thanks for making Lincs day with the suspiciously homo sounding post
I retired from RC, now life is all about guns and long range shooting.
