The ESC has a thermal safety so it won't be a problem, unless you produce a huge spike of current like 100mph gearing and 0% punch control full throttle ^^
When I pushed the truggy hard while 2 batteries on grass (50mph 17/46 gearing), my motor was at 158F and ESC 150F, so it's still acceptable. Yet in 15/46 the ESC fan rarely come ON.
And yes :( RCM pinions are fragile :(, I have yet a Robinson Racing pinion and it's perfect.

well ill look into a robinson pinion.

Nuz this 1520motor works very well when geared to around 50-55mph depending on how much your truck weighs. Im weighing in at 14lbs and i dont really have temp problems and majority of the time im running on grass and the rc calc says i am geared to 53mph on 6s.

Im hoping to leave the gearing exactly as it is and run 9s for speed runs. Im sure this motor can easily handle it as the motor will be reaching 52000rpm which is acceptable. I doubt i will gear down...ill just monitor temps and see what this motor can really do

My truggy weights 4.8 kg, I don't know in lbs ^^
What is your temp after one battery on the rear black plate of the motor ? It's here where the temp is the higher. It depends on the ambient temp and how I drive it too. I doubt that continuously full throttle on grass won't overheat the motor, like all motor.
If I drive it like in the videos, hard acceleration jump, cool coming back, rejump... I dont get over120-130 with 17/46 (50mph) but during high speed runs and heavy wheelies on grass the motor seems to heat faster.

I thought Mugen transmission was unbreakable These are 2 rear shaft, gived up after 50 batteries 6S 4000mAh, but I bought the truck already used :D
Bad chineses shaft ? Or the badboy 1520/1Y ?

Yes, both broken near the diff output, at exactly yhe same place. I don't know how it happened ;), I'm sure it's because they becomed mechanical fragile. I often drive on grass, where the grip is good, the the rear shafts take a lot in their face
Anyway, it's unbelievable, mugen's shafts can be broken too !

actually its good you brought that to my attention...

I drive primarily on grass (think thats my reason for going through so many pinions and transmissions) so i will consider swapping the front and rear drive shafts.

Still i think 50+ runs on one set of drive shafts is pretty gd considering the abuse they take!

What do you mean already???
I replace the gears in my tranny every 5-10 runs!!! It just cant handle the power of the motor, and because of the length of my truck, i can actually pull all the power down without too many wheelies.

Thats why i am looking into a CD conversion to lose all the extre unnecessary gears in the tranny...

The tranny means speedbox ? And your tranny's pinions arent made of steel ? yes, the center diff is the solution to avoid unnecessary wheelies and bring a fraction of the power to the front wheels ! What punch control setup do you use ?
I use 70% and my truggy still can wheeling on demand, although its center diff ^^ I use 40K center diff oil.

The Tranny is my transmission. Of course my pinions are all hardened but the gears in side the tranny are not as great.

I dont wheelie all the time as my wheel base is 17" so around 23+" over all length. And as my motor is mounted at the front, the extra weight forward helps keep the nose down. But it still wheelies on grippy surfaces.

I do not have punch control set. It is at 0. Not necessary as i have so much weight forward. Plus you are comparing your 10lbs truggy to my 14-15lbs truck (depending on lipos used) .

here are the vids of my truck performing.

As you can see... the weight forward helps keep the nose down and i can go all out on acceleration. Since the badlands, it has been performing so much better.

Ok, I am currently at work, you tube is locked here :D I will see it later. But as your punch control is set to 0, the strain on tranny is very high when you accelerate full throttle. Maybe setting it from 0 to 40-50% will increase your tranny gears lifetime ^^

NO!

haha didnt meant to be so blunt.
I love the immidiate torque... Also once you see the vids you will see what i mean by it being able to put the power down without the front lifting. Only when i use stock tires or 40 series rims and tires will it wheelie all the time, but with maxx size tires its quite controllable. I dont care about longevity of my gears... i just want pure fun.

Hopefully the CD will fix my tranny issues. And even if the spur on the CD fails, it will be easier to replace that compared to ripping my tranny out and completely rebuilding it.
