Hmm I need to cut them by half, hopefully that won't be a problem.

I'd call tech help to insure you have no problems. I'd almost bet you will not but if you get into that stuff I'm refering to Good Luck !

Very Sorry to hear.

I found myself in this position once and I had to use a Butane micro torch to burn off the "varnish" and then scrape the wire clean.

Hope you can remedy your situation however you do it ?
