a 1520 performs really nicely on 5s or 6s... 4s i believe is not enough voltage for desired speeds

Even in 4S a 1520 would run cooler and better for the same speed, because the widings are exactly the same, the motor is just longer and then has more torque per amp, o you can gear up to keep the same speed as the 2200Kv, and the motor will consume the same current (same 4S same power), but will run cooler.

MBX5T Prospec MMv3 NEU-CC 1520/1Y 6S "Overkill Flying machine" ;)

Brushless, what else ?

Hmm...might split the difference and try a Neu-Castle 1518 1Y 1800kv

High speed is not my aim for this one as it will be my dirt basher and maybe used for a little MT racing....

On 4S, and preferably keeping my 48T spur gear, any thoughts on a good start for pinion size?

Crikey, really? That seems geared high to me? My lighter 8T is on 2200kv, 4S and geared at 14/48 as much higher and things got a little warm?

I was thinking of 12/48 on the mugger as a start and then go maybe down one from there is too hot?
