Why? XL is rather expensive, like double the cost, the Mamba Monster will handle that motor more than fine! About the only thing you get with the XL, since that motor has a 6S limitation, is the data logging.
8s is perfect for the 1518 (1800kv x 29.6v = 53,280rpm without a load) IMHO. The datalogging and 5amp BEC should do my buggy right as well :-)
If I could only draw what I see in my head, then afford to build it, and finaly get to play with it...
I'm pretty sure you will void the warranty; after all the 1515, 1518, 1520 and 1717 are all stated by CC to have a max input of 25.2V.
And for the most part I've seen that the sweet spot with these motors are about 30-40k.
Somewhere here in the forum I read one of Patricks posts that the 1717 is OK on 8s provideing the RPMs are in check, I would inmagine the 1518,1520 would be the same or better since their max RPM is 20K higher.
I retired from RC, now life is all about guns and long range shooting.

Yes, but a Lipo cell is about 4.2 volts at full charge, so we have to expect 4.2 * 8 = 33.6 volts from 8s and this leads to 33.6 * 1.800 = 60.480 rpm, just above the motor limit

Bye.
Just remember two things about that; 1) the voltage will dip under load and 2) that 4.2v value drops pretty fast in less than a minute. Either way, you won't see those rpms for very long, if at all, unless you're running flat out right off the bat.
