Me too. I am going through the same sort of process at the moment for my wife & I. I have already picked up a mountain bike for her through a militray base exchange, because she did not really care too much about spending a ton of money on her bike, but she wants me to get a nice bike. Since we are in Prague Trek is the bike of choice for most here. They do have a huge variety in designs for Trek selling from $1000 to about $5000 depending on just how fancy you wish to go on your setup. They actually have some very nice bikes sporting exactly what you suggested for about $2500 and I am considering going that route because I have a lot of time to get out on the trails during the day while she is at work.
