You dont need an resistor, the spark especially with 6s is not that bad.
on 8s your getting an smal "bang" but it will take a long time before it will ruin any connectors.

Maybe we're just scaredy cats!

From what I could tell the cap pack was 880uf total, the esc had 2 * 680uf that I could see.

I'd love a clear answer on what resistor to use as well. I have a 1 ohm 10 watt in there now but it looks friggin huge. I've seen one post where Patrick has said 1 ohm 5 watt, but that was for 6s? Even that resistor is fairly big, it does your head in doesn't it?

i run my 5b conversion around a lot of petrol bajas, with all the flammable liquids around i would rather not have the 8s crack and spark when starting up... just to be on the safe side... Plus the big scary spark makes me scared

FB5b, it certainty does do my head in... i was looking at 5ohm 10 watt and their monsters! i would love to have a definitive value,

so thats, 4x220uf on the cap pack, and 2x 680uf on the MMMXLv2?

according to brians calculator i will require a 45ohm, 20watt resistor to charge caps in half a second...

that seems CRAZY high?

You also might damage the ESC if the 45 ohm resistor is connected when the ESC beeps the motor...

Just use 1 ohm. It works fine.

Thanx!

I dont think deans connector will last very long on 8s "sparks", but bullet will be ok, as it will only hit the edge and it have bigger contact area.

Guess its better to use resistor, but not really needed.
