For me, the gears in the Blue Bird servos aren't the weak links, the electronics are. What I do now when I burn out the electronics in a Blue Bird is buy the regular plastic gear version and transfer the metal gears from the burned out servo into the new one. It saves about $5 per servo!

I had one of those as a steering servo in my old Nitro Revo and it worked great... for about 20 minutes.

There was a thread over at the Traxxas forums, and after much talk, it seems that the electronics are very sensitive to overheating if trying to drive a hard load. Some people recommended setting the EPA so it won't "bottom out" at the ends of its throw. That seems to work...sometimes. Funny that other brand servos don't have this failing. They either are designed to handle the extra current at a stalled condition, or utilize some other type of electronic protection circuit.

As the old saying goes: You get what you pay for. Maybe it would work well if you used a really weak servo saver to keep it from stalling under heavy load; but then you'd be negating any benefit from a strong servo. Best to buy right once rather than to buy wrong twice.
