The xl3100 will still be a touch faster than the 8l on 14 cells, but they are close in performance. Both will be a handful on a race track, though.
The key to an 8 pound truck is shedding all the excess weight you can. I even modify the pro-line bowtie tires to be almost 2 ounces lighter per wheel on my race truck. LiPo power is the kicker, though. With the 14.4 volt set-up, I can still finish a 5 minute heat with power and runtime to spare, but the batteries weigh about as much as one 6 cell stick pack. I also run 4 shocks and have the g-maxx single speed prototype(half the tranny is gone, as well as the shift servo). I also use the Lehner basic xl motors (smaller and lighter than the Feigao). I don't use a receiver pack or UBEC either. The truck is all aluminum (actually, I have three similar trucks-they are all around the same RTR weight when using the same equipment, but each has a slightly different suspension/chassis/motor setup). They all hover at just over 8 pounds RTR with LiPos. Even with 12 cells, they are all below 9 pounds RTR. I could probably get into the high 6 pound range if I wanted (using stock plastic parts), but then the other e-maxxes would push my truck around like it was a xxxt on the track(I already can be pushed around by the other trucks due to the light weight)!
