There must be a setting in the charger to end the charge after an hour if it hasn't peaked. I don't know how the 989 menu system works, but I would look for that. If not, then you could try charging at a little higher than 1C so it will peak before the timer runs out. Of course, I assume you are talking about NiMHs here...
