Another Gmaxx is born

After the sale of my beloved TXT-1, I used the money to fund the start of a Gmaxx project. My original inspiration was Juju's truck. Lie- I wanted a truck just like his so I practically cloned it, using some 'borrowed' images as a guide. Here is the result so far:-


Towerhobbies delivery of parts


G2 chassis and extension from Rc- monster; had to pay £20 for import duties...


Figured out why the HVmaxx wouldnt work after I pulled it from the TXT-1.


Replaced wires with slightly thicker ones.


Chassis was easy to build.


Extension looks really nice.


Different view, you can really see the curl of the lower plate edges.


Yet to sort out the wiring properly.


I could have just bought some cheapo stock parts to make it runner at this stage.


But thats just not my style, not that I have any that is....

Bought some 3.3 diffs, 3.3 slider shafts, 3.3 axle carriers, 2.5 tie-rods, some emaxx slider to mod up for us as center shafts, and a GPM bellcrank.


Added some integy gearbox collars for bling, and realised the tie rods were too short...


MSR4 piggyback shocks.


G3 race skids arrived from Gorillamaxx.


T-maxx shell turned into a Gmaxx shell....


It'll do for the time being.


G3 front skid fitted, I have the rear skid & rear upper plate as spares.


Tidied up the motor wires.


And used an old shoe lace as trunking for the RX wiring....


Theres a clearer pic of the trunking- remarkably effective.

Thats it so far. I have some new 3.3 tie rods though- alot thicker than the older ones, and they came with the tall hollow balls so the bump-steer issue is sorted 'off the bat' (strange expression but makes perfect sense). Just waiting for my 2coolrc order of FLM bulks and Alloy hex adaptors, then I can order the Gmaxx suspension & single speed gearbox cover when their site reopens (and anything I like the look of while Im at it.) It's actually "right off the bat", but it is commonly used without the word 'right'.

It's actual meaning is, immediately.

I like the new lid, nice color. mmm.... HSV... Pontiac was the closest thing we had to Holden and GM had to dick it up. I was hoping to trade in my GP GXP for a G8 GXP someday. nevermore....

Nice job!!!! I would use some sort of high performance battery connection though, such as Dean's Ultra plugs.

You might want to see what new products they come out with before you order anything else...

I don't want to rain on your parade, but those piggy back shocks aren't all that great.
They're more show then go unfortunately.

So far the tamiya connectors have been okay, but I know that they do tend to melt together under high loads. If that does happen, or they get too hot to touch but dont melt I will get some deans. Its just a pain to rewire 2 chargers and 6 battery packs = Im lazy.....

My plan exactly. I have heard rumours on here about what stuff they're releasing, so I will wait until the GorillaMaxx site reopens before I order the suspension etc.

Same could be said for most of Integy's stuff really, but:
1. They were on sale, $79.99 for all 8 = bargain.
2. I have talked to alot of people on other forums and they are okay for general use, and since I dont plan on launching my new toy off a cliff in a hurry, it should be fine for my needs. I can always stiffen them up and play with the oil/ spring settings so we'll see how it goes.

Awesome conversion man!

Heading the right way for sure!! you could set for 4 shocks, saved some weight.

With the right batteries, that hvmaxx is a rocket. (if you manage to keep the truck light)

4S lipo would make it fast. the power from a brushless setup comes from the batteries, so if you use poor batteries, the speed will be poor. and the batteries you are using are most likely budget batteries. their internal resistance is high, meaning their voltage drops under the slightest loads.

What arms are you planning on using? aluminum or plastic?

Nice shell, looks very racy..

Lipo would be nice to have, but its just so stupidly expensive (over here anyway) its not an option. I have 2 pairs of cheapo batteries which arent all that great- maybe 5-10 minutes run time at best. But I do have a pair of Nosram 4000mah which kick butt, so I hope to get some more better ones in the future. Arms wise Im getting the new Gmaxx ones when their site reopens. As for shocks, I like the way 8 shocks look, and this isnt going to be a hardcore racer, so it should still look great and perform well enough to amuse me no a sunday afternnoon. I like the shell too- might get something cooler one day but I just love T-maxx shells....

Neither as-such. In my lovely little town there are very very few people with Rc vehicles of any kind, so there's no community like that. I just like to go down the local park and drive up and down, fast. With the Gmaxx though it does kinda lend itself to both bashing and racing, so theres no reason why I cant build a small-ish ramp and do stuff like jumps, powerslides and back-flips (practice will be required though). I have the RPM wear plates so they should protect the shiney underside fom the worst of my driving- will have to see if I can find a centre skid that fits the gmaxx chassis.
