Yes you have a bad connection on that motor connector. The fact that it works perfectly when you hold the connector together prooves it. You can resolder the connections without voiding the waranty. I repalced my connectors with 5.5mm bullets and when I retuned it for waranty I just cut them off and returned it with no connectors and they didnt say anything.

I looks like it is for sure a bad connection. If reslodering it doesnt work, then try replacing the connector all together on both sides. The motor and the controller side. If that doesnt fix it you can always just direct sloder the wires together and then shink wrap the connection as long as you are not moving the system around to different vehicles this is actually the bast way. If you direct solder on connection do them all. Its best to have them all the same.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

No it won't

just use a blade and sslice open the shrink tube on both connectors and peel it back for inspection. If there's a weak spot (and I bet money there is) just cut both connectors off and replace them with new ones.OIf it's obvious the wire is coming loose and that's the problem and not the connector itself you can clean them up and reuse them.

Make sure you re-cover the connectors with shrink tube. You could use tape but it gets messy after a while and can slide off

The manual specifically says that you CAN shorten the wires without voiding anything, so I would assume resoldering will be OK. Basically, as long as you don't mod the internals or push it beyond what it is rated for, it'll be covered. They're just trying to prevent people from doing stupid things and making them pay for it.
