IMO it's best to have the fan spaced a bit off the heat sinks... but I gues that depends on how tall the sinks are... tall sinks should let the air flow pretty good.

But there can be a big difference in how much air the fan pushes. If it's too close to something it can's "breath"... when you pull it back a little it blows stronger.

Just check it out... listen and feel the air if possible.. and see if it's moving as much air when mounted fluch to the sinks.

In my CRT, I mounted abig fan above the motor and esc... in ends up spaced at least 1/2" above the esc.
