The 3mm screws that I used were of the self tapping variety. They work and hold very well. The fans that I use are 12v fed straight from my 4S lipo pack. They have been working for about a month now. If they burn up any time soon, I'll just make a voltage regulator for them. I've found the 12v fans to be far less expensive than their 5v counter parts.
