Yep, I have wanted to build a 4x4 pede for years, but not with 2 trannies.

Hopefully they bring out a xl5 model sans 7 cell nimh... Then it will be around 200 bucks like the xl5 pede etc... I would buy it then, and sell the xl5 and titan for 40-50 bucks... 150 for a roller with servo is a great price IMO, especially since it is new!

Or I can carfully watch ebay and make my own... did that with the slash 2wd... Would rather buy one new. 400 minus 150 for the vxl, and maybe get 50 bucks for the 2.4 radio setup... Not sure what a traxxas nimh will go for, maybe 30 bucks new? Maybe I can do it for 150-175 for the roller that way...

I was actually hoping to eat my words, but dammit I guess that VXL Maxx just ain't happening...

The only thing that strikes me as a real improvement is the shaft drive/ midship motor, and Tamiya was doing this years ago, my mind remains thoroughly un-blown.

That velly is gonna cook there too, if the ESC lasts long enough.

Sell the junky rims and tires, TX/RX, ESC/motor, NiMH and it should off-set the cost quit nicely.

I retired from RC, now life is all about guns and long range shooting.

Definitely plan on getting one! The track guys are already talking about Spec Slash 4wd racing at both the on-road carpet track and off-road dirt track! 2wd Spec Slash racing is a hoot! Lots of fun!

I wonder if this is why the launched it w/ a VXL only. If it had a Titan motor in it, the spec class would be established w/ that. Basically they can dictate the rules of the spec class, and force it into the BL system, which they no doubt make more $ on.

hmm... clever bastards.

well we dont know if they will release a brushed 4wd yet. They did the same thing with the Mini's. release the vxl versions first and promoted those, and then release the brushed version.

Yeah I would love an xl5 powered monster truck version (stampede) or even better a monster truck roller but fat chance from traxxas. It looks pretty good to me as a nice light weight platform to build upon. I will definitely buy one if I see a cheap roller for sale (even minus body and wheels). It would be awesome if you could get a plastic roll cage for it to run instead of the body.

now that is about as straight forward as it gets. Truck still looks great though. Now I need to order one and rip out the electronics.

i hope some ebay retailers sell the rollers on ebay. i'm not a big fan of the V systems.

I'm gonna ditch the electronics, the body mounts and bumpers. I'll also lose the body for an 8ight illuzion lid, add a rear wing and run 17mm wheel adapters.

i think that'll convert it to a 4wd 1/10 buggy.

But it will be the same size as a 1/8 buggy. Probably would even meet the rules for 1/9 buggy if you wanted to race it. Except for possibly the minimum weight. probably too light

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

Anybody else see this as a platform for an eighth scale buggy too? Move the chassis underneath the bulkheads and shorten the wheelbase by about half an inch, and you have a dead ringer for a Ofna Hyper 9E. More platform engineering yet to come me thinks....
