That's cheating on the motor mount linc! Nice job! This 6mm thing is Really going to piss off the traxxas noobs when they see our RCM revos rolling 1717's over there and they start looking for 6mm 32p pinions. I need to mock one up and post it up over there to stir em up.

Yeah, I know, but I like cheating!

Need to drop tdr a line and see what he would charge me to make up some insterts with m4 holes. I would mosify the one I have, but if there is no difference, why bother!

Just be carful if grinding down the shaft to 5mm not to let the flat spot let you throw the shaft off whack while grinding as it will cause the bit to hop if not stabilized. Then u will have a pinion that meshes funny as the shaft is no longer centered. What link did is about the best way short of cutting it with a lathe.

Link you should put a lathe bit in the drill press (leave it turned off). With a two axis vise and the motor running, all you need to do is hold a bit stationary and it would work great!

I would, but this vise is a cheapy harbor freight model and the press is not really good either. I would like to get a small lathe, just to get a feel for it.

i spoke to mike he "might" setup a conversion service to turn rotors from 6 to 5 or sell modded motors - would you pay for mike to grind your shafts?

Sorry, I'd rather see Mike sell even a limited selection of pinions than offer that as a service. I don't want to cut the shaft on my 1717.

BTW, in case anybody from Castel is paying attention, the shaft size for teh 1717 is still shown on your chart wrong as 5mm.

We are changing the diameter for future motors to 5mm.

OK, thats cool for future owners, but pretty much kills any hope for 6mm pinions from RCM for current 1717 owners....

I imagine there is only a small number of people who will ever actually own the 6mm version given what Patrick has just said, so everyone will write it off as a mistake pretty much & move on; Im sure Castle will take care of you if its that much of a problem getting 6mm pinions/ machining down the shaft to 5mm at home.
