could you not mount the cells vertically in buggy/truggy trays?

You probably could mount them vertically, but it would be a tight fit. An a123 cell is 25mm in diameter iirc and a standard battery tray is about 50x150 so you would have to run a 6s2p pack, which would be perfect for this ebay listing.

You'll need a new charger too, that is one of the two problems. You need a different charger and the cells aren't flat.

Most half decent lipo chargers can do A123s (Li-fe or Li-ion setting, whichever says 3.7v for the fully charged voltage and 3.3v for the resting voltage), but it does need to be a 6s charger and have a good power output to make the most of that ~5c charge rate potential. 12 of those cells weighs about the same as 7 or 8 nimh cells, which isnt too bad, but still twice as heavy as a similar spec'd lipo, so... personal choice.

Resurrecting a bit of an old thread, but the seller updated the sale a little bit. Hes including pictures of disassembling a dewalt DC9360 pack now and says they come straight outa them. Price dropped $5 as well.

Did anyone get these? How were they?

Yeah I bought a set. I could tell from his original pics that they were battery take-outs (you could see where tabs were welded on before). I finished tinning all 12 cells yesterday. I have yet to charge/run them.

Just worried that they might be rejects, like packs that didn't past factory tests or something.

We want to upgrade the cells in our 30 lbs combat robot to A123 cells at some point. Perhaps even our 120 lbs if we can fit it into our budget. We've destroyed batteries in the arena before and the charge rate will be awesome to top them off inbetween matches.

The seller says they're brand new. It's probably old stock, but we all know they last forever on the shelf.

Have you tested your cells yet? I would like to get 4 sets of these for my lawnmower. Let me know how they perform.

BTW, in the eBay pic, the front M1 cell is actually an OLD M1 cell (notice the thinner darker blue line), like not from a Dewalt pack, but from the developer kits, I would know because I bought a developer kit the first week they were available (3 years ago)... actually still have those cells too in 5s1p packs, still perform as good as new too, go figure.

I'm thinking the Rustler. I'll be making 2 6s1p packs from them. Does anyone have a link to some oxygen-free fine copper mesh? I want to use that to solder the cells. Battery bars hold too much heat so I'm afraid I wont get a good connection.

Thanks MM. I found this too- http://www.action-electronics.com/braid.htm. They have some wider braid (1/4" diameter shoud be about 3/8" wide (flat) right?) and it's oxygen free so it wont corrode inside the pack.
