Just got back in from a full run (it rained yesterday), and this thing is insane! :D

The wheelie bar helped a little, but a full power takeoff still resulted in the truck ending up on its roof. I'm glad I've got a 'show' body coming from SebAirbrush, because I can see my bashing one is going to be frequently scraping along the ground at high speed. I don't know what the 2nd gear top speed is, but its enough, as the truck covers the ground at an alarming rate, then its on the brakes as I run out of space or a solid object approaches waiting to jump out in front of my truck...

After nearly 13 minutes of hard running (geared 17/66 with UE diffs, on 14 GP3700 cells), I took the body off and took some temp. readings. The air temperature was 50*F. Whereabouts on the motor is the most reliable place to point the IR temp gun to get an accurate reading? Because the controller was at 140*F, the motor heatsink was 120*F, the motors rear end plate was 140*F, and the bit of purple can thats visible was at 175*F! Could the higher temp reading be due to the different colors/reflectiveness of the various parts of the motor?

It won't hurt to drop down a tooth or 2 on the pinion and see what difference it makes to the performance and temperatures.

Don't worry about those temps too much..

The reason for the difference in temp,is because the purple is directly on the copper of the motor. you could use a heat transferring compound underneath the heatsink.. That would result in a drop of a few degree..

You can always try different gearing options and measure the temp again..
