Traxxas Summit New Truck

This is a tough one for me. I've been holding off on getting a crawler so I could see what Traxxas was coming out with.

I've already got an e-revo, and while some of the features such as the remote locking diff are cool, I can't see getting this to go along with my e-revo. Not enough difference to justify it. If I was just now getting into the market for an e-revo or a crawler, this would be great.

So I think I'm going to look into either an axial or the losi mrc. (probably an axial artr)

Though having the spare parts for an e-revo & the experience with one would make working on the summit easier, I think the learning about a whole new truck would be more fun.

wow that what my Exact train of thought, i just finished my revo conversion, and was waiting to see what truck went with that magazine ad awhile back. A crawler is my next project too, unless something happens with tomorrows release I'm going Axial artr.

donyt get me wrong, i like change as much as the next guy. Just pointing out that there are reason's why this happens. I too wish it would have been a new rockcrawler platform, as it probably would have been my next buy, The summet, however cool with its new feartures, is just a little to similar to my E-revo for me to go and get one.

I think it sucks.

*new shell with LEDs = lame
*locking diffs = how long do you reckon those will last before they strip or bust?
*beadlock wheels and funky tyres = nice, but nothing amazing

I agree with those that have said its just a re-hashed Erevo pretending to be a trail truck/ crawler; crawlers are solid axle with a minimal chassis, trail trucks are most often scale vehicles and not big lumpy MTs.

Nice try traxxas, but you fail.

I'll say is fun to semi crawl with this one but a spool and low gears doesn't make a rock crawler. But still very capable in uneven terrain.
I also was expecting a solid axle crawler but for those like me that didn't like the looks of the solid axles is a good idea and is very tempting.

yeah. I like having more options for my e-revo. When I get bored with it the way it is, I can go for the short arm slash set-up, or a high rise summit. I like the options that will keep me from getting bored. Its a great all-in-one platform, but I think it would be cooler if they called it that. The e-revo; The e-revo short course; The e-revo crawler Ed.

I dont know crap about poop when it comes to crawlers, but all the (good) ones I have seen keep their weight really low. Have independant motors for the front and back ends. Have the ability to steer the front and rear independantly.....I donno, I gree with most. The summit isnt really a good lookin crawler to me.

Personally I think the locking diffs are cool, the locking rings are steel so they should hold up for awhile. The good thing about traxxas releasing new trucks based off the same chassis is just as hoovartid said, when you get bored with what you have you can change out a few parts and have a whole new truck. Also it's good for the consumer as many of the parts are already available, so when you break it the day you get it you don't hanve to wait for parts!

after seeing some of the replies.....I think its important that you know....I just copied and pasted those pics together.

I used the front skid plate as a point of size reference, but I can guarantee its NOT perfect. It was done in MS paint program.

Those trucks may not be that different in size.

Based in the tire comparison that looks to be accurate. The Summit tires are stated to be 7 inch which is 1 inch more than the talons.

The summit tires look like the Tmaxx 3.3 tires, they are about the same size. I think the pic is close enough to see that its really bigger

I've got a pre-order in on one right now, but I'm not sure if I will follow through with it and actually buy one.

They don't advertise it as a crawler, just an extreme conditions monster truck. Those tires don't look like they'd be too bad, and I definitely like the wheels. The brushed motor will keep things smooth and cheap, you can get a sensored BL crawler setup if you wanted more power but that'll cost you. The 4 channel radio is nice, other than the switch for the diffs (looks like a cheap RadioShack switch to me). I'm definitely worried about durability. The new shafts should hold up better than the old ones, but you're putting a lot of stress on them with a setup like that. The remote-locking diffs is really the defining point of these things though. This is the only RTR that I know of that comes with them and it will help a lot when the going gets rough. Too bad they insist on keeping their diff design, go with a 1/8th style diff (6-8 spiders including outputs, tough plastic, big screws, etc.). I sold my Revo because there were too many weaknesses, weak diffs were the biggest issue for me. Those battery bays are also too small to be running a big lipo...the more I think about it the more I think I should cancel my order
