Worse - 04.12.2011, 12:16 AM

Yes things are getting worse, just because Tepco has not made any significant progress to resolving this incident. The level of global radiation leakage is now expected to exceed that of Chernobyl. This is not good and the bigger problem is that they still do not have a resolution. The longer this goes on the more radiation that leaks into our environment casuing effects on the planet that can take decades to disapate. No one kows to what level this desaster will affect anyone else yet, because this is totally new ground for a nuclear disaster of this magnitude. More so for the people of Japan this may create a very large dead zone on their island for 100 years or more. It will be months or longer before anyone really knows the overall effects of this situation.

Japanese people in the aftermath reflect. - 04.12.2011, 05:48 AM

This is just one piece of a story being told at villages throughout the northeastern shores of Japan. It is about hundreds of stone markers placed as a sort of warning barrier telling people not to build anything below those markers because of the histroy of Japan's repeated tsunami's over the centuries. Some are said to be dated back over 600 years telling of these freak waves that destroy homes and kill people, and yet they keep on building there. Over time we forget about these disasters and violate natures undaunted warnings. This is no different then the people who keep building in New Orleans on ground that is lower than the sea around it. How many times does humanity have to suffer great disasters like these to realize that it is not smart trying to beat the awsome power of this planet and its environment? How many thousands of people have to lose their lives needlessly before the message is understood? Seems pretty obvious to me.

The tightly-knit community of Aneyoshi, where people built homes above the marker, was an exception.

"Everybody here knows about the markers. We studied them in school," said Yuto Kimura, 12, who guided a recent visitor to one near his home. "When the tsunami came, my mom got me from school and then the whole village climbed to higher ground."

Aneyoshi, part of Miyako city, has been battered repeatedly by tsunamis, including a huge one in 1896. Isamu Aneishi, 69, said his ancestors moved their family-run inn to higher ground more than a hundred years ago.

But his three grandchildren were at an elementary school that sat just 500 feet (150 meters) from the water in Chikei, a larger town down the winding, cliffside road. The school and surrounding buildings are in ruins. Their bodies have not been found.

Farther south, the tsunami washed away a seven-foot (two-meter) tall stone tablet that stood next to a playground in the middle of Natori city. Its message was carved in giant Japanese characters: "If an earthquake comes, beware of tsunamis."

That didn't stop some people from leaving work early after the earthquake, some picking up their children at school en route, to check the condition of their homes near the coast.

Many didn't make it out alive. More than 820 bodies have been found in Natori, some stuck in the upper branches of trees after the water receded. Another 1,000 people are still missing.

Hiroshi Kosai grew up in Natori but moved away after high school. His parents, who remained in the family home, died in the disaster.

"I always told my parents it was dangerous here," said the 43-year-old Kosai, as he pointed out the broken foundation where the tablet once stood. "In five years, you'll see houses begin to sprout up here again."

So why I hear so many people arming themselves to defend their home & property? doesn't make much sense...you could own a canon but if you can't use it, what's the point?

What about snapping the guy's neck in unarmed hand to hand combat? I suppose that is considered excessive force or some such crap.

In Aus you can't shoot people unless the self defense scenario is extreme & even then you'll spend half your life in court defending your actions

That said, I'd expect to get shot if I crawled through a window that wasn't mine...ergo, crawl through mine, you won't get shot but you'll get everything & anything else until I stop you. By then I doubt you'll be walking away

Bats - 03.19.2011, 05:25 PM

We have a few of those aluminum mini bats stashed around our home for any uninvited visitors. If anyone gets into our home they will be a celebrity home run king. No guns. I qualified as an expert with the 45, 9mil, and M16 while in the Navy. The wife also had to qualify for her Gov services, but with kids in our house we just never felt safe having a gun around. Honestly we just did not want to become one of those parents that ended up on the six oclock news because one of our kids got angry at us for punishing them and then shot us in our sleep. Kids can be so violent these days after playing murderous video games so much, and seeing things like Culumbine.

Just the other day our 14 year old posted a bunch of lies on facebook after I had to pin him to a wall to get his attention. After a bunch of our friends and family got online and saw what was posted we began receiving phone calls from around the world reporting to us what was posted. After receiving quite a few nasty comments from everyone he deleted the post, but kids tend to get so angry some times that they just can not control their temper. If we had a gun in the house I would easily believe that he would have tried to get his hands on it and shoot me. I have had friends growing up with guns at home. Two of then were shot by their own family members over a stupid arguement. One of them died. His wife got two years in a sanitarium claiming temorary insanity after shooting him 7 times with a 22 rifle. The kind you have to reload and cock the barrel for every shot. So no guns in our house.

Recent trivia info - 03.22.2011, 05:13 AM

Here is a bit of recent trivia information that pertains to the 9.0 quake of Japan.

According to NASA scientists the 9.0 Japanese quake in March 2011 shifted Japan 13 feet to the East (closer to the USA), and dropped or lowered Japan as much as two feet on the eastern shores of the island. This is why the tsunami waves were so devestating when they hit the eastern shores. The last four major quakes over the last few years have shortened the average day on Earth by approx one to two seconds, because each major quake shifts the Earth's axis and causes the Earth to spin faster. All of this was caused by the Pacific Oceans tectonic plate to move on top of the plate that supports Japans island forcing it downward. As this movement continues over the next centuries eventually Japan will be driven into the ocean killing anyone who lives there over that period of time. This is not a very good future for anyone living and building on the island of Japan.

REALLY??? I was not asking if you had heard this, so what is your point in posting that "this was said like 4 or 5 days ago", except that you are trying to be a smarta$$ and causing trouble once again?

As far as I know the details I just provided had not been posted in this thread, so I was merely sharing info regarding the Japan earthquake and tsunami with the others who have been discussing this here since the event happend last week, which is what this thread is all about, and why we have forums in the first place. Are you specially challenged in some way that makes you act like this, or is making smart remarks on others posts your way of trying to fit in? That is how they act on the TRX forum, maybe you should spend more time on there instead of being rude to people in here. How's that working for you?
