The Conversion?

So I have a Revo 2.5 and I'm thinking about doing an electric conversion. Could anyone give me an idea as to how much it could cost to make this thing happen. I'm not asking for exact price, I would however like to hear from some of the people that have done this and see what they have to say.

Cost? Well, it depends.

How much do you want to fabricate yourself (motor mount, esc mount, battery tray, etc), and how much do you want to buy off the shelf (conversion kits)?

There is a sticky in the Revo forum made by yours truly that shows how to mod the transmission, or do you want to go the "easy way" and shoehorn the ERBE transmission in the stock chassis (if it's even possible)?

Then, you need to get a motor, esc, and battery setup. Which one you get will depend on how fast/powerful you want it to be and how much you want to spend.

Well I would like to do this the right way. I have some skill when it comes to fabricating, but I think I would buy the motor mount and then make some of the parts myself as I find that to be half the fun. I have read a lot of the threads on the forum and have seen that there are lots of different options as to motor and ECS's ant that there are even some kits that have everything, i.e. motor combo, and mounting combo's. I do likr speed and would like to go with a fast setup. I do understand that the options could be endless, but I would like to get options from people that have done it. Also I read the thread that you have about the transmission mod and would go the right way as it pertains to that.

Lock the tranny, but the tekno conversion, use a regular mod 1 pinion. If you really want the ultimate setup, get a vantage carbon fiber extended chassis. Castle makes great brushless setups (Mamba Max Monster ESC with 2200kv motor)

I was gonna say buy the RCM motor mount,lock the tranny in second,buy a tekno tray and receiver box,and a MMM/2200kv setup and either 6s hyperions (best) or 6s turnigys with atleast a 35c rating. Then you'll need a charger,I'll let someone else chime in on that though.

Thank you, this is the type of help I was looking for. It really helps that you know what your talking about. I will keep this in mind and when I am ready to do the conversion this is the way I will go. I have looked at the Tekno kit and like the way it looks but didn't know any one that used it. And as for the motor I had NO idea what to do. There are just way to many different ways to go. I know about Nitro, well I'm learning, but I know nothing, I mean nothing about the electric side of this. So if I could ask some questions that would be great...

See this is what I'm talking about, what are 6s? And what is a 35c rating??? and what is the difference in the type of charger I have and the charger I already have??

Personally I think the 2200 motor on 6s will be a bit much for your 1st conversion.

The tekno kit is very nice, I have used it myself. It is setup for you to run mech (servo operated ) brakes so keep that in mind. If you want to use the motor for brakes (much simpler to setup) you will have to lock the trans in second gear. This eliminates the 1 way bearing, and allows the motor to brake.

I think a 4 or 5s lipo setup would be good, and gear the truck for around 40mph.

The 4 or 5 or 6s refers to the number of lipo cells in a battery and how they are arranged. 4s means 4 cells arranged in series. Each cell is 3.7v nominal voltage, so 4 in series is 3.7 x 4 = 14.8v.

The c rating, 35c for eaxmple, refers to the batteries output ability. Higher number is better, but beware that this spec is the most popular battery rating to be exaggerated by battery sellers. So it is always best to ask opinion on the forum before you buy a battery.

Castle creations makes very good products, the mamba monster combo with the 2200 motor on 4s lipo (a 5000mah 4s 40c pack) with the tekno kit would be a great way to convert your revo.

6s on a stock revo will mean shredded gears and other drivetrain components.

4S 5000mah Lipo 35C lipo

Single servo mod - Hitec 7955TG
Castle MMM
Castle Motor - 1515 or 1518 if you can find one cheap
Lock the stock trans


Consider buying a 3.3 chassis and new centre driveline.

Not to sound like an ass here, but the fastest you have driven is the fastest that you know. 6s with the CC 2200 setup will make your nitro burner seem like a kindergartners toy in comparison (assuming we are talking monster trucks to monster trucks). If your nitro burner is an onroad car then it may be faster than a brushless powered monster truck...maybe.

Yeah,I shoulda wrote a disclaimer,with the 2200 combo it means you can run 4s,5s,6s without any trouble so you have some flexibility. And that the 6s should really only be used for the occasional ridiculously high speed run.

I get it now thank you for the input. I have had a few boat, and an on road car as well. So I get that this will be faster then any of my other rc. this has been very helpful. Now I need to get the funding together and I will be in business.

Oh I forgot. Is it better to use aluminum parts or stick with plastic? I see that some of you have gone with almost all aluminum, and others have used plastic. I have always been told that aluminum will just make other parts break?
