Paypal Fraud - 08.19.2008, 08:05 AM

Does anyone know of someone or experienced any Paypal fraud .

I have been using Paypal for 6 years and it just happened to me as i was on this forum

I get the ocassional fake email and never respond to them and never give personal information over email so i don't know how they hacked my account ?

Luckily i was on this forum as i got email notifications of Paypal transactions , they were coming through every minute , four in total from the US , UK and Australia. Rang my banks fraud department asap and they cancelled the card . While i was on the phone to them another three transactions were attempted

Bank is sending me a out the fraud forms , issuing me a new card and will refund my money . I have contacted Paypal about unorthorised transactions . Have changed my Paypal password ( they got in once so i'm sure they can do it again )but this has left a bade taste in my mouth.

Don't know if i will use Paypal again , but the prob is i use Ebay alot and buy / sell on the RC forums , not to mention alot of online stores use Paypal now like RCM .
I get most of my gear from the US as most of it cannot be found in Australia

No, I've never experienced anything. What has gotten frustrating for me is the new (or new to me) wait period. It used to be that paypal was an instant transfer. Now this 3 to 5 day "clearing" has me wondering if I should go back to using my CC.

the 3 to 5 to your bank account is always been there for years. Unless you are talking about something else. Also e checks have always taken 3 to 5

I have never had a problem with ebay or paypal.

Will be using this from now on https://www.paypal.com/securitykey

Everytime you log in with your Paypal password you look at your security key and it spits out a 6 digit code which changes every 30 seconds . You then have to enter the securtity key 6 digit code to access the account .So even if they get your passwords they can't access your account without physicaly having the security key .

Really? It seems to me that I have sent and received funds same day in the past using Paypal.

I have that for all my PP accounts. It's a great tool.

I use something similar for a commercial bank account. It works great. Probably everyone will have to go to that eventually. A lot of crooks are taking advantage of PP and ebay.

That key looks cool, I didnt know they offered that. I use a wamu freechecking account linked my paypal account and deposit money into it as I need parts. I figure that way they cant jack my real checking account for the mortgage and at most would get a couple hundred.

Wow , only two days and Paypal has refunded my money
Seems my wife accidently opened a link to a fake email asking to upgrade my card info as it had expired even though she didn't update the info and they didn't get my card or banking information they got my passwords when she logged into the fake site.

Needless to say i have changed all passwords on the computer , limited my Paypal funds and have ordered the security key and she must not reply to any emails unless i look at them first
