BTW, can anyone who ordered a 1717 check their online invoice (email with this link: https://billpay.quickbooks.com) if it says CAR or AIR version on the invoice?

The 2 versions of the 1717 have different KV's;
The air version(open endbells) has 1580kv
The ground based version has 1500kv
It doesn't say which version on my invoice (Car or Air) it just lists the KV
I retired from RC, now life is all about guns and long range shooting.

Checked my invoice concerning my 1717 order and it also states that i will receive the air version with 1500kv instead of the initialy ordered car version of the 1717. I have sent an email to christy at castle about this issue.

I have no doubt that they will get us the correct motor. They are the best as far as customer service and their product.

So the difference is 80kV and the air version has holes in it? Well, the 80kV doesn't matter, and the holes could be covered with aluminum tape. NBD, IMO.

Guess you forgot about the fact that the motor wires on the air version are a miserable pita to solder if you want to shorten,or possibly repair them?

I know it says "actual motor may vary", but the pic has it with the same leads as the car version... TBH, I don't see why they would be different in that aspect.

Well, my research is now complete.
Edit: Now, I have to admit it looks as though the wires on that motor are still an extension of the stator coils because they are retaining that bend pretty well. It might say "OK to shorten" just because of the added length of those extensions. But why would they say that? I know stator extensions are a PITA to solder. I've done it. :)

I ordered another 1717 car motor, 1580kv, 5mm shaft the 1st day of the sale. The email confirmation from Castle said the right thing, the invoice in the pkg said the right thing, but I received a 1500kv air motor.
Shaft looked big - I measured it and its a 6mm shaft (ad says 5mm for the air motor). I was one that waited months and months to get a 5mm shaft for the orig 1717 I ordered during the Black Friday sale 1717 last year. Don't want to do that again.....
I called and was assured it would be straightened out. I've already had email notification of a pkg from Castle.

So-
80kV, holes in the endbells, 6mm shaft, flattened sides, and it probably has stator extensions for power leads (which are all black).
Do the boxes just say 1717 on them with a stock photo and not specifically "Car" or "Heli" version? I'm not bashing ANYBODY here, I'm just trying to figure out how there could be such a mix-up.

I sent an email to Dena and she said they're fixing my order. Hopefully I'll receive the correct version.
