New buggy motor? (help choose)

I have both the 1515/2.5D/F and the 1512/3D/S Both are great 5s motors for a buggy. It really depends what the primary use will be. If you will be bashing it and driving it around in grass and such go with the 1515. If you are building a dedicated track vehicle go with the 1512. The 1515 is a bit more versitale with the gearing it will allow you to run due to it larger size and more power, but the 1512 is ligheter and more than enough power for any track.

well what diameter are the finned nue motors? i think the smooths are 39mm arent they and the finneds are 42mm. i know i could easily fit a 12 tooth or less with the XL and mikes heatsink and prolly the smooth can but i dunno about the finned, mike only has a 1512 2000kv finned neu while impackt has the 1512 1700 kv smooth can.


will the smooth can be good enough and where can i find a heatsink for it?

you dont really need the fins with a Neu. I run the smooth 1512/3D with no heatsink or anything and I get temps around 160 or so after a 20 minute main. The neus run cool enough. The fined probably do run cooler, but how much...

your right the whole motor mount and chassis act as a big heatsink reguardless.

Finned can is 44mm. If 12t is smallest pinion that will fit with an XL (36mm), then a 15t would be the smallest you could go with a smooth Neu (39mm). And 20t with the finned (44mm).

no no no i could run a 12 tooth forsure with a smooth neu with a finned i would fit my rear brace with a 14 or 15 i believe, but all i can find instock is the smooth can so i guess i need to find a 39mm heatsink for it.

I wouldnt worry about a heat sink for a Neu...I have never heard of a Neu frying due to the temps being too hot

1509 2Y 1820kv
Lightweight, powerful, fast, great track motor, draws 55 amps.

1512 3D 1700kv
Same as above but it draws 70 amps, and it will have more torque.

i think a found my motor!!! NeuMotor 1512/3D/F/H it the heli version, has an internal fan, aluminum rear cap for the fan, and the body is also finned! all that and its on clearance from a heli store, it is awefully big but hey i can put 3mm spacers under the center diff and it has enough clearance everywhere else that i could go down to a 14 tooth pinion. (smallest i need to go is a 15 tooth)

what do yall think its 44mm around the finned area, in the rear it has a 50mm diameter ring as part of the cover over the rear fan, and its 71mm long, and it DEFINETLY will fit with 3mm spacers under the center diff OR if i grind the 50mm ring flat where it would touch the chassis


what do you guys think? should i order it or not?

That quite a motor Ross, I was going to recommend the 1512 2.5 Ds or the 1512 2 Ds, the 3d should run real cool on 5s... I would be a little concerned about raising the center mount 3+mm (more than the 2mm existing) there is a tremendous amount of torque there so the shims used would need to span a large area to ensure that the force is equally distributed, something to thing about.. Maybe..

How much for that bad boy (?)..

i figured itd be a better purchse to go ahead and get the 1515 so later on if i wanted to i could put it in a truggy or mt on 5-6s, plus it was the only motor out of my choices that Mike had instock........
