Hi, welcome to RCM.

There is usually a small piece of fuel tubing that is placed inside the drive cups. This helps the dogbone stay in place. After your upright broke they probably fell out and are close by the first missing dog bone. If you only knew where that was, huh? It doesn't take a lot of it to keep the dogbone in place. You can cut some off and see how close the dogbones end comes to coming out when you push the arm all the up and all the way down to it full extention.

Most stock servo that come in rtr are just enough to get the manufacture by. They can barely turn the turns when it is standing still but will get the job done while it is moving. It is one of the most common first upgrades people make to their RTR.

What servo do you have installed in there now? Is this a brushless conversion or are you running the nitro on it? If it's nitro are your using a 6v hump pack or a 4 AA batteries. What batteries are you using rechargable?

Hey Gee, thanks for the reply. I am using the nitro version with the stock servo. I think its weird that they use a piece of tubing to keep the dogbone in place. They could have used a longer dogbone. But it does explain why i lost the second dogbone soon after the first one.

I am using 4 Sanyo 1600mAh NiMH rechargeable AA batteries for the receiver and servos. What servo can you advise me as a replacement? Is it better to use a humppack instead of AA's?

A hump pack will give you 6v vs 4.8v of the AA. You can probably find one for under 20 bucks. I've been a HiTec servo guy for a while. Some are futuba and there are other. It like the old ford, chevy thing. I thing a HiTec 645MG would get the job done for you. I think they are around 35 new but can get them cheaper on ebay. There also digital traxxas servo like the 2070 that should have enough torque and are more common on ebay. The right place at the right time on ebay and it .99 plus shipping. I haven't ever been at the right place or right time to get one that cheap but rumor is it can be done. Those both have around 130oz of torque using a 6v battery pack. Some where around 100 or less using a 4.8v. So there is a difference in torque for the sevo at the differnt voltage.

How long you had the ls10? You have the stock receiver and radio in it? I don't think it matters I think all receivers can take up to 6v now. Remember though if you hook up a 6v hump pack and your receivers starts smoke. You have Gee to thank for putting you on the fast track to a Radio system upgrade.




Come to think about it I've never owned a new out of the box LS10. They might have the fuel tubing or a small o-ring installed you'll have to check the other side. But that is the trick that is used to keep the dog at home.

Yep, everything is still stock here. Ill scout ebay fot the 2070 servo. I'll also look for longer dogbones. I remember having seen dogbones that are 3mm longer. That might just be enough.

LS10. It's good to see. Hope you don't mind me posting a few pic of mine in your thread ?
I'm was running a 4600 Mamba motor but the weight of the the little tank was a bit much,found a 2300kv Turnigy BL motor at "HobbyCity" for 22bucks. Great motor and it doesn't even break a sweet with the M.M. and 3s. It's ben a great little truck and handles decent,not as tough as I'd like but I just try not to kill it. I like the look of the Slash wheels and tires on the LS10.

hey Bondonutz, I noticed that you have the Mini E-Revo. Is that the 1/16 version of the brushless E-revo?

Yes Sir it is, It should be arriving at the LHS where I work this coming Thursday. I feel like a Big Kid on Xmas morning waiting for it. I bought Lipos(Zippys) 2 months ago and found a Traxxas 2.4 TX/RX from a BL Revo for it.

Thanks for posting. This isn't my thread. I started it thinking there would be more input on the mod and optional parts for the LS10's but was a little late. The popularity of LS10came and gone. All the guys moved on I still haven't caught up with them. I had the same problem with bell bottoms and large lepels on my flowered silk disco shirts. Everyone else was already back to wearing the straigh leg Levis 501 and I was stuck with my 4 older brothers hand me downs, several nice pairs of chordaroy bell bottoms and perm of curly locks my mom thought would make me look cute (more like someone to beat up at school).

The ls10 is a tank. It takes a good beating. Too bad it didn't get more advertisement. A lot of people don't know how good it is. I put 4s in mine the other day just to see it go a little fast then I usually run on the 3s. If you guy find anything you think is a tip or a differnt part that could be used. Post it if you would. The slash tires are a nice fit. I've always like oversided one. But these just seem to fit the LS10 and have really performed geat.

Strange how the LS10 came and went like it did ? I guess I'm a little behind to, because I bought mine new in Dec and posted pictures at Nitrokillers and received little to zero response. I guess thats why I got it so cheap ? I only paid 169.00 new and sold everything Nitro related and it paid for my RCM mount,ofna shocks,5Kmah-3s lipo from TrueRC and the Turnigy motor. Nice cheap build ! When I first got it together I plopped in a 4s and sqeezed 68mph out of it with the 4600kv motor with conservative gearing. But due to weight and wanting to run primarly offroad the lower kv motor was much better suited. I can run pack after pack with zero heat issues. Top speed is only about 30mph but plenty for bashing on rough terrain. I've ben lucky,only broke a couple axle carriers so far but there the weak point anyway. If I drove it a lot more I'd look into modifying something but I have 10 others to drive and beat the snot out of.

Clean ol' pony ya got there, I restored classic Stangs for several years. Nice cars to work on,simple and well built except the cowl.

Thanks. It is nice to open the hood and see just the engine with a good view of every wire and hose. My little winter wagon is a 84 Camery. Old car but still packed with wires hoses and sensors. I don't know what to look at when I open it's hood. Went to go start it up for a bi-weekly warmup. It starts, runs 15-20 sec and dies. Opened the hood to look for airflow sensor I read might be the problem. I'm still looking.,,,


I've got around the same # of rcs. Always something to fix and it's hard to share the hop-ups between them all. For that matter hard to buy all parts so they are all in running order at the same time. It does give a person more option of which Paul to steal from to pay Peter though.

You did a good job selling off your nitro gear. Paid for most of the brushless setup. I grabbed a Turnigy last time I orded a lipo from HC but haven't put it in anyting yet. I think it was a 3300kv motor. Maybe I got the 2700 cuz I have a 3300kv motor. I will have to look and see how it does. Sound like your is working well. Does the shaft seem short on yours?

Yeah it's a tick on the short side. The shaft is a little more than 3/4 of the way through the pinion, Plenty for this application. If it was a 1/8 scale running 5s and big jumps I'd be a little more concerned.
BTW, My BAD- I have the 2300kv Turnigy BL motor,NOT 2700.

So you guys converted you nitro LS to a brushless? Why? I bought it because I wanted a cheap nitro car and I read some good reviews about the GT10.

I noticed that the axlecarriers are the weak spot. I broke one on the first trip . And I broke another on the second trip. Lyckily, yesterday I managed to drive three tanks without breaking anything. But ofcourse I had to loose the rear dogbone..

I was wondering how i could get some more power out of the nitro engine. It reacts sluggishly to the throttle and I don't think it comes close to the advertised max speed. But then again, i haven't done much tuning.

The next car Ill be buying is definately the e-revo vxl. I like to have a smaller car too.

Ditto on the axle carriers.

I am sticking to BL too from now on. Still, it is also nice to have a nitro car as well. Nitro cars have one big advantage. You can take a gallon of fuel with you and drive for hours. With a BL system you need a trunk full of LiPo's (and $$'s) to do the same.

A trunk full is bit of a stretch, with a 5000mah 3s inmy LS10 I can get up to 45 minutes runtime, If I install a 9000mah 2s I can get over an hour easy. With 3 lipos you can always be charging one with zero down time.
