Battery Box Mod - 12.11.2009, 09:13 PM

I'm in the process of building another E-revo and planned to run it on 5s. Well I got to thinking, The B&B revo already has Titanium & RPM everything and LST2 diffs, why the hell not run that one on 5s ?
First problem was Hobby Citys measurements were a bit off and these packs are 5mm wider so the battery door will not shut. DAM !?
WTF do I do now , Drink a few beers and enjoy a "Cigar" and get creative.

FYI, the packs are Zippy H 3300mah 5s 30-40C.

One side done and another to go, I'll still need to tear the shrink off the lipos and check everything and rewire with 10G wire and reshrink and black out the wires and plugs. Then tidy up everything nice and neat. Will post more pics when 100% complete.

Heres the finished product, still using 75% of the doors. I had to trim the latch part and a 1/4" across the top of the door. Should work great, will be testing this afternoon with a good bash.
I rewired the packs from the HC-12G wire to Castle 10G and inspected all solder points. The 2 packs were clearly assembled by 2 different people but the end result was the same, Good job.
I drove the truck last night for a few minutes to check everything and WOW, E-Revo on 5s is wicked nasty !!!!! Can't wait till later today

Short Video - 12.14.2009, 10:14 PM

Driving the E-Revo on 5s is a whole new animal and I wished I did this much sooner ! I guess I didn't because I new the diffs wouldn't handle it, glad I got the LST2 diffys it in now. That makes me happy.

The cage fits the stock body near perfect, it follows the contours to a T.
I've have several different bodys I run that fit very well including the Revo 3.3 Jconcepts I use normally. I feel it's money very well spent, considering the motors can range from $130-$260 bucks another $120.00 for protection made sense ? It's very light and doesn't seem to effect COG for bashing anyway ?
When I finish my 2nd E-Revo(soon) I will buy another for it, highley recomended !

Heres a very video from the bash spot last Sunday, pardon the cameramans goofyness.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGcT3Qh9kH8

I have several uploaded of different times and with different friends and trucks. In some of the newer videos the Maroon LST2 is me also :-)

Looks marv, Nutzack! Yer murder job is inspiring, but WAY too much work. At least for me. I got too much going on to invest that kind of time. Besides, my Erevo runs just as good, even if it's an ugly duckling next to yers!

So, are u saying that the old doors are still functional if u shld decide to use them again? And are those RCM straps? Pretty clever way of mounting those straps too! Is the velcro is strong enuff to keep the batteries in place on big jumps? I'm sure it is. Since the pack is secured and can't slide back and forth, I'm sure it works great!

FYI....The Turnigy 3s 5000 40c's I just got BARELY fit in my chassis. I think its more about the 8awg wire they use, and the angle in which they exit the packs. And to anyone who's wondering... The packs ROCK!!! They make my FP 25c 5000's seem dead by comparison!

The Turnigy 2s 5000 40c packs I'm running in my Summit barely fit too. I tht about hot gluing some straps to the chassis in a different way, But I can just barely get the doors closed, so that will do for now.

Great job man!!

Don't you worry about dirt and and stuff getting in yer can or your ESC?? I was always under the impression that if you even look at a MMMV3 and NEU can wrong, they will go bad! Yer rolling in dirt with no body! HA!

My ERBE has a Heli NEU on it, so it'll suck dirt in like a jet engine. But I'm not sure that it's on all the time either.

This spring I'm gonna get a RC Solution cage for mine, and also have you fab me up a New Era Roll bar for my LST2 Conversion. Which would be done if I could get around to order the DUDE parts. It'll rawk!! 6S Marinepower Lipo w/ MMMV3 and a NEU 1515 2.5d/s with XXL diffs.

Thanks JPOPCRACK,
Nah, the battery doors are beyond return, They are so cheap they are non issue if I decide to go back with different batterys. Which is something I will NOT DO, 5s in the Revo is perfect.

The Battery retainment straps are a simple design I came up with. The velcro was dirt cheap as were the buckles.Total investment for 5yrds of velcro and 12 buckles was $9.00 . The little aluminum pieces/washers were hand made .
See pictures from post #20 to see how much of the doors are retained.

I'm feeling ya on how the batterys fit, these 3300 5s packs couldn't be another MM bigger in height, I have to push them in with a little authority to squeeze them in.

No , Only the BB Revo and the Maroon LST2 are mine in those recent videos. In the other video's of a LST2 on 5s is mine also. It has White rimmed giant CEN wheels.

No worrys about dirt, as long as the fan blades don't jam. I clean out the ESC's gently with compressed air.
The NEU motors I have are sealed for the most part, rolling around and filling the chassis with dirt is non issue far as I'm concerned. I usually dab a lil' shoe goo around the wires and plug exposed 3mm mount holes and there good to go.

Get a RCS cage, you'll have no regrets.
I'm gonna get another for my 2nd EREVO when it's done.

Do I only need the mount? With or without Swivel? Swivel seems handy I suppose. I don't need the collet but the single speed hub seems like a must.

So, I guess it seems i need the mount and the hub, and that's it!? If so, I'm ordering them tomorrow! I'll order the New Era roll bar and maybe have it shipped to you right off the bat, since I can't do anything with it. My neighbor has a MIG welder, and I want to buy one... but still... you know what to do much easier than we do! I'll send you some dough for anything you might need to buy. Can you mail beer? HA!!

Ever try his lock nuts? I really don't have a problem w/ my 23mm hubs coming loose. I just use blue locktite.
