What is next for 1/8th scale racing? Lets chat

I agree magman and Dwight, that's what I was kind of getting at in my previous post.

The whole idea of a "conversion" implies taking a vehicle built for one purpose (nitro) and adapting it for another purpose (electric). Don't get me wrong, the conversions work, and work well, but it would still be nice to migrate towards electric-specific vehicles built from the ground up. Let the nitro guys have to worry about taking the newest, best vehicle and convert it over to nitro, that will be the day!

I am with Simplechamp on this one. I am crazy for 8th scale buggies and want to see one built from the ground up for nothing but insane electric power. (The Hyper 9 was nice, but still borrowed a lot from its nitro counterpart) The current stuff is great and I am certainly not complaining, but it seems where the big racing trend from the serious companies for nitro has been to lighten the parts....drives, diffs, shock towers ect....I would like to see one that is just over built and balanced for electric from the ground up. And make a battery trey that can adjust to fit ROAR packs for the racers and adjust for the rest of us that may use packs bigger than 138 millimeters. Just my 2 cents.

Needless to say, were not seeing anything new in the buggy area because apparently, the RC companys don't see much money in it which in the end is the goal of all businessess, to make a profit while taking advantage of supply and demand

Buggys are all but useless IMO unless your a racer or just love driving really fast in even dirt areas with smalls jumps which = boring IMO. No buggy I've seen could take the punishment a MT can during heavy bashing and thats what alot of people love to do with RC cars, bash and screw around. SC exploded because it was a new, cheap alternative to everything else for racing but now, even thats starting to fade away because of costs to keep up with the other racers.

In this economy, Mommy and daddy can't or won't splurge $500+ on little Billys new RC hobby that may or may not last long, especially racing against veterans with bigger pocket books

I don't understand the lure of buggies myself, unless your on a groomed track or pavement they are useless. A truggy is a good alternative, good mixture of handling and go anywhere driveability of a MT, don't gett me wrong though, I miss having a MT and want to sell off a buch of stuff and get a Savage Flux

Nothing beats the thrill of watching your MT power through almost anything in its path, especially loose dirt, weeds, leaves, sand, hell... anything! No finesse racing crap with MT, just raw GTFO of my way powa!

I miss my E-Maxx!!! I want to sell off my helicopters, Slash, mini revo, and maybe even my rc18t and sc10 to get a Flux. I really wish associated would get on the bandwagon and make an electric MT. Nothing against conversions but I like the cleanliness of a factory job and I don't want a CD in a MT, it defeats the purpose! Until I sell everything off or until next race seanon my RC-M RC8T will have to do the job. I gave 6s a try and it was insane even at 20+MPH wheelies where no problem and I only have 10k in the center diff

I really think that 1/8 scale electric truggys will start to take off more as the technolgy keeps advancing and batteries to push a truggy are getting cheaper. A true electric truggy would be nice but Mike's RC8T conversion is probably better than anything the manufacturers will release. There's no need to redesign the front and rear ends for an elecric version. Mike's chassis isn't just a copy of the factory chassis, it is truly a balanced electric truggy. The only thing I would like to see is some stronger CVD pins and axles, I've twisted a rear axle apart and snapped a pin on the front center shaft, otherwise it's been a rock solid truck

What I should have added follows your post a bit. Design an electric buggy/truggy from the ground up with also taking into consideration the few weak points that BL power has pointed out....axles, pins as stated above. Then you truly would have an exceptional rig.

The Monster has the market cornered as far as electric chassis layouts go. To date I have seen nothing remotely close to the quality/balance of an RCM electric chassis.

i'd also like to see a STRONG 1/8 buggy made with an easy mechanical brake setup and a motor mount that uses standard pinions. i think the tekno conversions are pretty cool, but i'd really like to see them able to use standard pinions.

on a side note...i just bought my second e-revo...the MT's are awsome for bashing.

Tekno's V4 kits will all be able to use standard pinions and are coming out soon!

it's about time. I've always really liked tekno's stuff but was put off by the necessity of long shank pinions. i'll definately get an RC8 v4 and 8ight v4. thanks for the info!

I was initially put off by them too, but after running my 8T with the long shank pinion, I've been really happy with it. Kinda prefer having two grub screws now.

i just looked at the V4, and it looks like you still can't run mechanical brakes on standard pinions.
