all i have to say is these days are tuff to live in and not make people mad, the other day me and my dad where taliking and my sister said she got like top student in P.E wel my dad jokingly said well kody failed (i did not BTW)and when you think of it you cant fail anybody unless they just dont go, because if you give them a bad grade in performance it becomes a big deal cuz theres always that chunky kid that cant quit do as good as the rest well you cant tell him he sucks at P.E because it would a judgemental comment. so all in all i think where stuff like this can get people in trouble is some people may find it funny and some may find it disrespectful (sp?).

Interesting read. I actually JUST finished a art project about illegal immigration and leaching off the system. I completely agree though. I think if are gonna come and live here, the government should make it to where they can't leach off the system and get welfare and such for a set period of time, or whatnot, depending on age, etc. The speaking English is another big thing. It really pisses me off when I here some guy cursing me out in Spanish when I pass them or go around them...

Here is a "hit home" Scenario - These are too funny not to share, ( but sad that they are spot on )
Scenario: Jeffrey won ' t be still in class, disrupts other students.
1956 - Jeffrey sent to office and given a good paddling by Principal Sits still in class.
2006 - Jeffrey given huge doses of Ritalin. Becomes a zombie. School gets extra money from state because Jeffrey has a disability
Scenario: Billy breaks a window in his father ' s car and his Dad gives him a whipping.
1956 - Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college, and becomes a successful businessman.
2006 - Billy ' s Dad is arrested for child abuse Billy removed to foster care and joins a gang. Billy ' s sister is told by state psychologist that she remembers being abused herself and their Dad goes to prison. Billy ' s mom has affair with psychologist.

I don't get why they say, "This place sucks, *country name* is so much better." Why did they come here then? Why don't they understand we speak english and not that other stuff?
But lets not bash all the immigrants. There are some good ones. Like the Columbian girl in my Spanish class (she helped me on my tests). But she came knowing english and was ready to conform to our society. She fits in with all the other normal American people.

HNC: That's the quote I was thinking of! And I totally believe that those other scenarios are true. It's crazy enough to be true given the system.
No, not all immigrants are bad. I don't have a problem with any that come here for better opportunities and then actually work to achieve them. It's the freeloaders I have a problem with. And freeloading isn't limited to immigrants or other ethnic backgrounds either.

I'll second that last comment. The UK is a wonderplace for spongers thanks to 10 years of Labour goverment. In the old days, people worked for a living, benefits were few and far between, so only the truelly disabled could claim them, and all other able bodied people had a job, even if it was working down a coal mine breathing coal dust.
These days, if you can fill out a form and pretend to be physically or mentally impared in some way, then you get given tons of free cash. I was reading in a newspaper only a couple days ago about a body builder and dance instructor who were raking in £10,00 a year or more in disability benefits by claiming to have bad backs. The number of people found out for doing these kind of cons is rediculous, yet the government doesnt seem to be cracking down all that much.
As far as immigrants go, well, it seems some of you have experienced the reverse- racism that can occur. People & kids are being banned from wearing religious symbols like crucifixs at work & school, yet 'minority faiths' are exempt from such bans. Heck, its now perfectly fine to wear a burkha (head & body scalf that covers everything all bar the eyes) in court and classrooms- one younf girl took her school to court because they wouldnt let her wear a religious garment.
What they dont realise is its a two way street; we must respect their religion & culture and make certain allowances, and they too must respect that the UK is a Christian country and they must learn to integrate into our way of living. The greatest example of stupidity is the St.Georges flag being banned from taxis and homes/ offices incase it offends a non-christain, yet we have to put up with muslim rallies calling for the beheading of christians in Iraq....
I rest my case.

Wow, this is really turning out to be a share-your-feelings thread!
My father (note that I did not say "dad"?) scammed for disability for something or other. Always something that was hard to medically disprove. Needless to say, I have had VERY little dealings with him.

OK, this is a long read, but I've been holding on to this for quite some time. Several years ago, hurricane Katrina hit the southern US and left a boat load of damage. I wish I knew who wrote this, but I don't so it will have to be left unquoted:
Quote:
In 1927, a major unnamed hurricane struck the city of New Orleans. It was actually more powerful than Katrina. The scope of damage was much more severe because this particular hurricane actually hit the city. Katrina missed it by 25 miles.
The interesting difference is the response the government gave in 1927 to those hurricane refugees, compared to the refugees of Katrina, err- I meant "survivors" ---(sorry Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson). How much aid did the government dispense at that time? Zero, nada, not one dime. And you know how much aid the army offered? The only aid from the army came in the form of loaning the city of New Orleans tents and camp stoves. Ironically, later, the army sued the city for reimbursement. So what was the big difference here?
It was the attitude the people had towards the government at that time, compared to the attitude that Katrina's victims have. The 1927 "survivors" expected nothing from the government. 80 years ago, people understood that the government was there to "protect life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Today, Americans expect the government to "provide life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." That's a major difference. And now, a week later, when the government failed on all three levels of local, state, and federal to provide for their needs, Americans were sorely disappointed
Reverend Jackson and reverend Sharpton spend their opportunities arguing about semantics." They shouldn't be called refugees, they should be called survivors". Unfortunately, they missed the boat. It was a perfect opportunity to deliver a very basic message to their people. Fact, if you are poor and uneducated in America, this is what happens. Fact, if you depend on the government, you will be sorely disappointed. Fact, if you are poor in America, there is no reason for you to be uneducated. Its free! 12 grades. And if you really apply yourself, there is enough grants and assistance out there for higher education, which will raise you above the poverty level. And no longer will you depend on the government and be disappointed. Its unfortunate that this lesson will be missed by most of the "survivors".
A couple of other points should be brought to light. G. W. has asked the congress for 50 billion dollars worth of aid for the "survivors" and clean up of the city. Interesting isn't it? One million people displaced and out of work in that city, sitting all day in shelters, waiting for the next handout. Of course, the thought never occurred to anyone that just maybe, "hey, we should give all these folks jobs filling sand bags to plug the levees and clearing trees." (Wonder how many of them would want government aid if they had to work for it?)
And finally, they haven't hardly begun the task of picking up dead bodies, and already the finger pointing has started. The congressional hearings and probes will go forever. Millions will be spent on a wasted diatribe of a bipartisan "witch hunting expedition"- all of which will be nonsense. If you're a democrat, you are going to blame the president. If you are a republican, you are going to blame the mayor and the governor. This is another case in point of how the government will once again fail its people, they could have spent the millions educating the poor and misplaced citizens of New Orleans so that they could go out and get a new and better life, instead of wasting it on useless blame investigations.

HnC, that should be on the one dollar bill (tha masonics might not like it)
seth556, I agree if they contribute and comform I have no trouble, I'm not worried about religion, but when we need a translator in our own country, there is a problem
BrianG, I agree the bulk of the relief should be shouldered by the city affected. I have always been a believer of doing for yourself. While all the gulf coast should have been prepared, If i lived there when Andrew came through Fla. and saw the insurance companies shafting everyone, I would have sold everything and moved north.
Work because i gotta, play because i wanna
People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

Exactly....
Why don't we just call ourselves
America....the doormat for the world................
America.....the country that rolls over.....
(Politically, Not militarily)
America...land of free stuff for foreigners.
This all reminds me of when I applied for a college loan and grants. If I was hispanic, black, or a transfer student I could have had all the financial support I could handle. But since I was a white middle class kid I was SOL. No money available for the core families of this country.

And why the freek do I have to press 1 for English?
The other day I went through one of those self check out lanes at Wally World in Flagstaff, AZ. It wouldn't let me scan an item until I picked a language. I refused to use it and walked away and made a big deal of it verbally so the lady in charge could hear me.

GOOD MAN!
Locally there has been a lot of grief sent towards business owners so in the "self scan" lines you can by-pass the STUPID & RIDICULOUS language selection screen by just scanning the first item. It automatically defaults to english. Thank GOD for that!
