Yes, I'm very concerned about why it died. I realy don't want to go through this again. It was embarising and hard to stay calm enough to asses the situation safely. The fet board is literally burned in two!!! The motor wires came unsoldered and the positive battery lead came out of the XL when I was unplugging it I consider myself lucky it didn't happen when it was a football field away from me.

If I could only draw what I see in my head, then afford to build it, and finaly get to play with it...

slimthelineman-> Yup, going to race it it's weight forward on purpose to help on/off throttle steering. I do intend on sizing down the batteries (was going to get into torque control to see how low I could get the amp spikes) revising the chassis and battery trays and upgrading the shocks.

It's just a local outdoor track and most if the guys run SC.

Is that a 1717 on 8s? When you ran with mmm did you rewire for parallel.

One thought was you killed the motor running on 8s and that killed the esc.

It's a 1518 (max rpm recorded was 55,480 rpm) and I plugged in my MMM and everythings in working order so I can't see it being the motor?

I LOVE my 1518 motors. I got rid of all my 1515s and now have four 1518s. keep us posted as to what Tech Support says about XL.

Sounds like a great project. I looove the HV stuff as you might guess but my local tracks not so much. So gotta play by the rules so I can race. No biggie. I really like the layout you got going, pretty much how I wanted to do an 8s setup but I planned on mounting the batteries on their sides in the rear as close to center as I could. Keep us posted on your progress.

Sorry you had this happen. I will see everyone for v4, until then my Baja will be burning good ole petrol, and please don't blame the poor batteries they are innocent. Please flame if you like, even ban me, this post was made with a slight bit of sarcasm.

Anyone know where I can get an avatar that says "Beta Tester" with an x through it similar to BrianG's no fan avatar?

I have no concern for owning a V1 XL, I am confident that Castle is good to the customer you are aware that people who bought the V1/2 MMM's are STILL being taken care of right

I'll keep everyone posted after I talk to tech support, with any luck there's a good reason why it went super nova. If it's batts, motor, BEC ect. I'll be glad to do what it takes to keep the joy of 8S, data logging, and the super low temps and insane power this castle power plant was putting out.

Data logging.. Yuuuuuuummmmmmmm........ On a side note I would gladly be a beta tester any day. Where do I sign up? Little bitty fires in my toys just excite me!

I thought Beta testers didn't pay for the item they are testing.

Problem or problems? Hell I would pay for an item to test it. Would be the least I could do to burn some stuff up to help out castle. Most that race with me know that if it will take my racing abuse it will stand up to pretty much anything. To each his own I guess but we all know that in the end everyone being happy is not possible, to many liberals....

plugged it into the receiver and it didn't arm. So I unplugged the batts from it, and plugged them back in.
Went through it's start-up routine just fine, armed, and I drove the car about 20 feet. It stopped wheels turned (like the BEC turned off) then came back to life, drove another 2 feet and FIRE!!!
My new super bad azz Mamba XL is dead, and it tried to take my car and lipo's with it. The batts appear fine aside from a little loss of heat shrink in a few spots and the receiver looks ok too.
I just plugged in my MMM and the car runs/ drives fine. Looks like I'll be spending some time on the phone tomorrow with Castle support.

Damn...this is the news I never would like to hear....especially after I've submitted the order to get the XL (and the order cannot be cancelled...)

Bye, Andrea.

DrKnow -- I want to make sure I get your XL for eval in engineering. We want to see if we can find out why it failed.

Please PM me here with your contact info. I'd like to flag your unit with receiving.

Thanx!
