I Don't own a buggy but they are known for there durability especially over monster trucks(and from what i hear xrays buggy's are one of the most durable). as for the shock i think it is because you are not use to the smaller type car yet. once you get it running and get a feel for it you might like it better. It is just a different kind of style that is all and it is mainly used for the track. hope i helped

Well, watching your build has convinced me that the 808 (or whatever the equivalent will be when I can afford it) will be my first buggy purchase.
Awesome build! High quality buggy!

Awesome build pics!! Love it. Great choice on the 808. I absolutely love mine. I had the EC and upgraded to the 808. Its amazing how much better the 808 handles. I cant even believe it.
With reference to your questions Ive got some recommendations based on what I have learned on my 808. See my notes in red.

1. What is Drooop?? And what setting do I / have you used with any success? I found the instruction manual setting of 4mm exposed on the rear droop screws to be too little droop. I am running it with great success at around 2.5mm exposed. Of course this will depend on the track and surface you run on. In general I find a low grip track needs more droop (arms hang lower) and a high grip track needs less droop (arms dont hang down as far).
2. Isn’t there supposes to be some kind of dust boot covering up the ball joints?? They are totally exposed and I can see the front tires kicking up everything on my rears every time when driven?? What am I missing here?? I'm assuming by ball joints you mean the joints on the CVD drive shafts. In your pictures it looks like you used a ton of grease on them. Much more than you need. I actually prefer to use a dry lubricant of some sort rather than grease. Grease makes dirt stick. I would check out mcmaster.com and search for a product called dri-slide in a 4 oz. squeeze bottle. That stuff dries to a gray film that lubricates better than grease and actually repels dirt rather than attracting it. Thats what I like to use anyway. You can break the CVDs back down, clean the grease off and use the dri-slide and you wont have to worry about boots or dirt sticking to the cvd joint.
3. What is going to be braking on here, I hate beaning down (much like you) and feel the need to order extra parts, got any suggestions??. I've been running mine pretty hard and had some pretty rough crashes, cartwheels, lawn-darts and other vehicle high speed collisions and its still tickin without a single broken part yet. I'm not buying any spares until something actually breaks. Xray built a seriously stout yet very lightweight buggy here I think. I have a bucket full of spares for the EC that never got used either.
4. Does anyone have a SETUP sheet they can send me?? This buggy has sooooo many different options I don’t even know where to begin other than what the instruction recommend. Just use the instruction manual setup to start with. Xray is recommending it as a very easy to drive setup that will work well on most tracks. I can confirm that it is a very easy to drive forgiving setup. (exactly what I need ) The only thing I changed so far and didn't change back was the top position on the rear shock mounting. I'm considering going up in the center dif fluid a touch. I am unloading a bit more than I like on the straights and I think it is contributing to some slightly higher motor temps due to the over reving when the tires unload, but if it means giving up some of the great steering this thing has I don't know if I will keep it or go back. Anyway, thats the next change I'm gonna try. If you want more set up sheets go to the forums at teamxray.com and go to the setup sheets area. All the pro team drivers and everyone posts their setups for us mere mortals to use. The team drivers are on there very regularly to answer setup questions and give tips as well. Excellent support there, I highly recommend you check out the teamxray.com forum if you haven't yet.
5. Not that she’s running yet, but how do I judge service on a buggy and to what length is involved??, a complete teardown or just regular maintenance??, what is regular maintenance on a buggy anyway?? Regular maintenance is cleaning, checking for worn or broken parts, tightening loose screws, proper function of all of the parts of the buggy, changing old/dirty fluids. I like to change the fluid in the shocks and difs every few hours of actual run time to keep them consistent if its a track vehicle. Not sure what "normal" is, but thats what I do. Every few weeks of racing/practice. I hear there are some fanatics that do it after every race day, but that just seems crazy to me. If the stuff isnt looking dirty(brown or grey tint), then its still good IMO.
6. What is the recommended shock rebound setting for buggys?? The instructions give me three options (low, 50% and 100%) what are your thoughts / suggestions.. Go with a low rebound setting. Having a high rebound setting is almost like having slightly stiffer springs. If you need stiffer spring, just get the stiffer springs. I find the rebound really hard to set consistently. But that might just be me. I cant ever get it to set at exactly 0% rebound, I just get it as low as I can without it being negative (shock rod actually pulls back in when you extend the shock all the way)
I'm SSSssoooo sorry for the newbie questions!! andThanks SOOOooo much for your time and have a great one!!!
If you want to learn how different settings effect the cars performance and handling read the Xray setup guide that came with the buggy kit. It is a awesome reference guide and will tell you how to adjust everything on the car and what its effect should be on the handling and performance. I never go to the track without it. The kit also comes with the standard setup sheet that has all of the settings the manual tells you to set and a blank so you can keep notes on what you changed and what works for you.

Nah just show her photos of lincpimps hobby room from the "show me your R/C shop", and blame it on him. Everyone blames these things on linc. Besides Xmas is not that far off. You can either get it for Christmas or request and early Xmas gift for emotional purposes. Check her closet and see what new shoes or purses she has gotten and you will have reasons to get something R/C to make up for that.

Hey Fellas, you can always blame stuff on me! I will be the r/c purchase scapegoat! You can even blame your online porn collections on me, if the wife is dumb enough to belive it.
Just do me one favor. If your ladies would like to see me in person about anything I have done "wrong", just make sure they dress up and bring me some cognac (and maybe a female friend)! I am partial to Remy Martin Fine Champagne VSOP.

The quality of the parts in this 808 kit look to be some of the best that I have seen. They did a great job making this one perfect. Your phase by phase nararation is very inspiring and informitive. I love reading your project along the way. You may want to take it a little bit easier on your liver and kidneys though. Death by booze is not a pretty site. Moderation is the key. Anyway thank you for your project sharing program. Keep up the good work on the build and the photo updates along the way. Your efforts are much appreciated.

I look forward to the completion and testing of your project, and for getting one of these for myself . I guess this will be my Xmas wish from the wife this year. I can't wait to see how the BL gear gets mounted and how well it works in this vehicle. Keep up the good work TDC .

Good morning Sir, (sorry about the Sir thing) it’s just me.. (deal with it).. Hhhaaaa haaa.. hhhhaaa..
I’ve had a blast building it and I'm really looking forward to putting it to the test of track abuse. It is a bit pricing though just over 600.00 for the roller, but I'm hoping it will be worth in the long run and I know you and you like things to be around..
The truck is made out of the most quality parts I’ve ever had the opportunity to work with and the build went together without any mods.. I'm currently waiting for the motor mount from Mike and a MGM I bought last week off of a another family forum member so with any luck I should have it up within the two weeks or so.. I’l be using an existing Neu 1515 1.5y on it and a single 5s lipos.. That’s combination should move it along nicely.. (I hope).. Thanks again for stopping buy and leaving your comments (positive as always..)
Have a great one..
Shaun.

Good morning GorillaMaxx360, actually it did help.. (thanks) I’ve had the opportunity to get over it and I’ve received nothing but good things regarding the durability of these buggies. So I'm a much happy place at the moment..
Thanks the comments they are much appreciated..
Have a great one

Hay Fkyx,
It really is a great build and extremely high quality buggy in my opinion. This is my first buggy ever so coming from a MT background it was a little shocking to me, but throughout the day and ready other comments regarding buggy’s in general I still don’t in anyway regret this build..
Thanks for your comments and have a great one..

Thanks Big Greg.. that just what I needed to hear, I just need to remind myself that it’s not a MT it a totally different class of truck where I really screwed up was / is I’ve never seen / held a buggy before so I didn’t really know what to expect. I'm happy with the purchase and I'm hoping it will perform as I’ve been informed..
Thanks so much for your comments and have a great short work week..

Hay fkadir…
My wife saw my truck this weekend after it was started and she looks at me and say’s.. YOU bought another truck??? “What ever” and walked a way, (got to love that woman) After 18 years a marriage she finally knows when to shut up and walk away… my boy is excited too, he gets to beat on another one of dad’s toys..
Hopefully your wife is that understanding as well, the 808 is extremely well built and I’ve been informed it can take a beating.. We’ll see…
Thanks for stopping bye and leaving your comments..
Have a great one..

Yea that is the thing about this forum. We tend to watch out for one another even though we may not have met any of them. For the most part there are a pretty good bunch of guys on here, and some of them are fairly smart. This makes for a good community that watches out for one another and we lend whatever logical information that we can to help out teh R/C brothers within the RCM. You have kids and you have to think of them in everything that you do to yourself.

I get that to. We are used to getting a lot more vehicle for the money and with the sticker shock on that 808 and then matching it next to the MT it is a little depressing. From the engineering standpoint that 808 looks very well thought out, and hopefully it will give you the satisfaction that you expect from it. I am watching this one closely before I make my final decision on getting one.

By the way Shaun just to clarify I do not have the G-Maxx. I have 4 Maxx's of different versions and all metal construction. 1) Unlimited Engineering Lightning SuperMaxx, 2) RCM FLM ext Maxx, 3) Hardcore/Integy E-Maxx, and 4) is a Dynamite/Integy E-Maxx. All four of them have the 2 speed aluminum tranny with metal gears installed, stainless or titanium drivetrain, and I am installing all High Voltage electronics for the power plants. I now have the Quark 125B, Schulze 18/97, MGM 160/24, and the MMM for ESC's. I have the Plettenberg Big Max and I am working on acquring a few Neu & Lenear motors to finish the collection. Once we get resettled in Korea (August/September) I will begin the process of installing the electronics and figuring out how to work the ESC's so that we can get all four of them race ready. The electronics are all new to me so I am in no real hurry to burn any of them up. Once I figure everything out we will have some real fun. I have not posted anything up the way that you have, because I have taken a lot of time (& money) to put these together and picked up pieces here and there to build them. It would have taken over a year of posting to compose what you have done in just a couple of weeks with your builds. Once I have tehm all where I want them I will tear them completely down and rebuild them with care and loctite making sure not to miss tightening one screw, setscrew, pin, or nut. No mistakes no regrets. We all tend to get in too much of a rush with this hobby and it ends up costing us big time. just wanted to clarify what I have been building. Sorry for the confusion TDC. I am learning a lot seeing your builds on here. Thank you.

Hay macr0w,
Yes that is a Fender cyber twin good eye’s, here’s the babies that go with it.
1. A 2004 American made custom body starburst Fender strat (70 &80 rock) with Custom Shop Special Pickups
2. a custom shop classic Fender Telecaster (old rock) with Seymour Duncan 59 humbucker & a vintage stack
3. a 1974 Ibanez hollow body (for jazz and blues) with Gibson 57 classic & classic + pickups
4. a fret light FG -451 Pro Guitar I bought for my son who doesn’t play it! rrrrrrrrrr
5. a 1990 Abilene (my first guitar)..
I’ve been playing guitar for over ten years it’s a blast, I like to play BBKing, LedZ, ACDC, JimmyH, GG/dolls, chuck berry, (IE) the oldies / classics.. JimmyH (star spangle banner & (CB) Johnny –be –good) are the funniest song to play after a few (drinks).. BBK and Bo diddley songs are great to ply / improvise off of when the blues set in.. A man has to have it’s outlets .. I assume you play yourself??
Have a great one
Shaun.

Good evening Jerry,
As always it’s a true pleasure reading your posts.. WWoooowww you have some serious builds going on.. I was totally mistaken.. (My bad).. I do understand your point of view and I’m really looking forward to seeing your builds when they are ready!!.. I think everyone else is too… are you involving your kids in the process?? They might like the fact of learning with DAD!! (just a thought)
Thank you again for all of the kind words and great encouragements you provide on this site for me and many others. I also like your comments you left on another thread I read earlier today quote “you get what you pay for in this hobby” truer words where never spoken my friend..
As always Jerry thanks again for your time and best of luck in your upcoming life change to you and your family, I wish you nothing but the greatest time and safest of travel to / in Korea..
Have a great one..
