G4 Widetrac Build - 06.18.2013, 02:02 PM

Turns out my chances of owning a G4 anytime soon were not as low as I had been thinking!

So, now that I have one, I've sorta switched gears on one of my other builds.

I had been collecting these parts to build a front and rear end for my HVL...but I've decided to use it all on my new G4 (so I'll need to begin collecting a new setup for the HVL soon)

Drilled & Tapped the GA Bulkheads for Ejector Pins

Modified a rear sweetstrobe brace to work with gumleguf's large wing mount

And here's where I'm at with the build right now. All I need is set of Ultralite Diffs and I'll have a roller!

The G4 has been monoblock'd.

It had to be done. Just didn't look right without it. Plus, the rear center bone that I got with the chassis is made for use with a mono, soo.... I guess it had to be done lol

Took some careful dremel work (didn't turn out perfect, but not bad for being done by hand)

Checkout Lunsford grinder Ti links - They look much better and are much stronger.

I hadn't seen those before, but you're right, they're nice and clean looking.

I will probably stick with the TRX aluminum ones for right now, just because they work and they should be pretty stout...and I have plenty of electronics to spend $$ on first, haha

One Comment and two questions:

Comment: You have built and absolutely amazing truck, even if you didn't buy the knuckles from me, lol...but seriously, it's gorgeous!

Questions:
[1] Did you make/mill that wing-mount for the new MBX-T Wing
yourself, or did you buy it somewhere? If you boight it, where?
[2] I guess this is more than 2, heh...you did and damn good job
modifying that Mono-Block for the G4 Chassis.

Chad, thanks for the compliments on the truck!

CerberusVI got the wing mount question answered for you.

And thank you on the monoblock mod, it took me a while to do, but it fits perfectly!

Well, the original center diff mount plate I got with this chassis was pretty thick, and stuck the RCM mount up high enough to cause the rear bone to interfere with Gregers' custom G4 brace. So, I robbed the center diff mount plate I'd originally made for my Predator truck (before I got one of Gregers' custom center diff mount plates, which I am now using on that truck), and I modified it to work for this truck, as its about 1/4 the thickness of the plate I got with the G4, and lowered the diff down where I needed it to be for the rear bone to clear the center hole on Gregers' custom brace.

Cut the plate down a little so it fit in between the two chassis braces

However, it turned out using the thinner plate was still not enough. The RCM mount was still sitting a little high. So, I cut about 4mm or so off the bottom of the RCM mount legs to bring the diff down even farther (and I slipped some stainless steel 16mm shims in to take the slop out of the diff)

And since I cut some material off the RCM mount legs, I had to add a slot for the spur to stick through the bottom

Drilled some mounting holes in the chassis for the new plate

And mounted it all up

With the center diff mount much lower, the bone now clears the top of the custom G4 brace

Awesome! Too many people are so a-scared to modify their parts. You just gotta man up and do it!!! In this case, Wheelman up and do it!

Thanks man! Modifying is definitely my favorite part!

I don't plan on selling any of this stuff, so when something doesn't work, I have no problem cutting, filing, drilling, grinding, or bending anything necessary to make it fit how I want it.

Plus, it makes it a little different from what others have, and I like that.

I like the red suspension limiter straps you have on there. Are they custom?
Great build here!
