Outrunners supported/held by the shaft?

Hey Sike I just checked out that century outrunner... YIKES is what I have to say as well. I can't see it holding 30krpm though, that just seems like too much, and it doesn't state how many poles there are.

Yeah, I got the 2 ideas going at once, sorry. And I know the outrunners don't have the nut for that.... yet.

But it seems like if it was to be tried it would work better on a 1/5. I don't think we're quite there yet. I also am tossing around doing either a single outrunner solid center like sike's, or a twin inline setup.

okay, beauty WN (can I call you that?) I figure if it's not the exact size, you can always make an insert for it to fit...

A question for everyone, does Neu have an 8mm shaft high pole motor that could have the shaft hollowed out for the same thing?

There are several places that comfirm it being 8 pole.

Here's one source that you may find useful with other things:

It has 10 Magnets inside the rotating endbell instead of the conventional 14 as with a 12 pole outrunner. So it's a different "8 pole" wind also.

The motor shown is my own custom wind. If you prefer a factory wind in the 4120 series or the 4130 series, I'm sure I have that on hand as well. In fact, I believe I still have all the custom mounting hardware for the Direct Drive to Diff Revo Conversion.

What are your thoughts on that on sikes?

Zp I wonder if 1mm wall is enough? Then again going to a motor with a 10mm shaft will bump up the weight and size significantly. Just thinking about 2mm would be better for a hollow shaft.

That's not a bad looking motor. A Much cheaper alternative. When you go cheaper, you make compromises though.

I'm sure we could get a hollow hardened shaft for one of these applications. Tried, tested and true, I'm sure.

No, 1mm prob isn't enough, but 1.5mm should do it, after all this is high carbon steel we are talking about here.

A 4.8mm shaft should do it to give a little tolerance play in the hollow shaft, me thinks?

If I stick with an outrunner, I will probably go with the Scorpion motors, I don't like to go cheap, I have learn my lesson after a Feigao motor...

I just emailed Neu Motors about making a special motor, so we shall see if they can make something, and if it's even feasible. I should just get Neu to custom make a special motor/gear box into one unit (replaceable gears obviously) and sell it under my own company.

ZP, yeah you would want to buy some hardened 8mm with the 6mm bore already there, not sure either where you'd find... but I'm sure it's available.

7000 watts oughtta do pretty good, there's a 130kv and a 180kv.... for $150!

The Contra Motors have alot to do with this.

In the area of diff cup flex!

Use a hollow hardened shaft from one of the Contra Motors, cut it off flush with end of the rotating endbell, then bolt on your diff cup.

This would support the endbell properly, eliminating flexing pressures from the cup. It would be hollow to allow your center drive shaft to go right back up through to the other end of the motor.

Make Sense?

I've been fascinated with outrunners for a long time now. There are lots of different designs.

Aw.. hey I've been running a 9XL since August last year! They just need lots and lots of cold air lol... the F's are a dying breed for sure though.

I agree 1.5mm would do. Looks like a worthy endeavor...

I guess I'm just a little disappointed your project doesn't involve a Tesla Coil or a Faraday Cage or something
