My audi has it... Electromagnetic suspension...
The shock oil has fine iron particles in it - it uses an electromagnet to create a field around the pistons - greater the charge the slower the oil will react and alter the handling...

In one of my RC scripts (no clue which one?) they have a "Sneak Peak"/"Spy Shots" section and I seen something magnet related for RC Shocks.
If theres intrest I look further into this and post whjat I have availible.
I retired from RC, now life is all about guns and long range shooting.

i knew it was out there but i didnt know it was this advanced,i didnt even think cars had any sort of electro magnetic suspension,and bondonutz,provide what ever you can,they sound cool.--josh

yeah!!
grab a nice round neodynium magnet and place in the shock cap, get another and attach to the shock shaft and you are set  simple

When I was working for dowty aerospace we were pitched the solution for landing gear - You need landing gear to be almost rock hard for landing and then softer during taxiing.
The issue is that you need to apply electromagnet to get the hard setting - fail safe would therefore be to soft... Not good...
It also adds weight as oil is much heavier - This solution is used for a lot of truck cab seats to reduce vibration and fatigue IIRC

Not quite that simple that would cause the fluid to thicken and you would have maximum resistance. You would need to vary the magnets distance from the shock body to vary the dampening.
I saw electromagnetic shocks on Discovery Channel, TLC or something like that a few years ago. They were installing the system in a Humvee. They even had a demonstration with a pan of fluid and the electromagnetic element of the shock. They dipped the shock into the fluid and turned up a power source. The fluid formed around it and as they turned down the source the fluid dropped away in chunks like adding water to mud. I thought of doing something like this for my RC also. I have it all worked out even have a full bottle of ferro fluid. I was going to use a servo to turn the pot on a DC motor control kit or a brushed speed control. the coils around the shocks would require shorter springs so the coils could be around the middle of the shock bodies. I still want to do this (and a bunch of other things) but I get sidetracked easily esp. with work. The only idea I have that someone has not already brought to market is the one I mentioned earlier.

SAFRAN Group Dowty? Nice. I sold a few stuff to Hispano-Suiza and never quoted prices for wires and connectors to Labinal. Good companies.

Was it this one?
There is a big thread about these shocks on RCTech But there is not much infomation about how it works. They don't want to let much info out about them until they are released. Aparantly the magnets let you use really thin oil without chassis slapping too much over bumps and jumps.
The guy designing them ("tex1" on rctech) aslo made the Halo hopper used in paint ball, if that means anything to anyone.

Doesn't something similar already exist from Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, etc.? Pretty sure I read something about them having something inside the shock where, once the "Sport" suspension is engaged, an electromagnet engages and stiffens up the shock. Not a 100% electromagnetic shock but it's kinda similar.
All I ever wanted was an honest weeks pay for an honest days work.

Yes its made by Delphi and called MagneRide and is in some Audi, Ferrari, GM, Acura, BMW, and Holden vehicles. In about 04' there was talk about using the technology in helicopters for vibration dampning. http://downloads.hindawi.com/journal...004/546845.pdf
