That 2nd one down is a pretty great setup. I wish I would have used 2 of those for my controller. I would use some thermal epoxy and just permantly bond them to the bottom of the Quark.

Are you guys using 5 volt fans on 14.8 volts or off the bec on 6 volts? I use my 12v fans directly off the batts (14.8 volts).

Hey dudes... why do you think 12v fans are bad or can move some good air???

I have run both 5v and 12v. Some fans are definitely better than others... some are duds and some work great.

I have always run 12v fans on whatever the pack is. So a 4s lipo would really make a 12v fan boogey I would think.

BTW, when I get a 125b I think I will try to stick it to the alum chassis and see how that does as a heat sink... no added weight, clutter, etc... it's a free built-in sink with lots of airflow under the vehicle. Anyone try that with a Quark? (buggy/truggy)

On 5s or 6s lipo, you will boogy the blades right off of the fan.:005:

Not to mention the fan motor will burn up in no time. On 5V off the BEC you can run whatever battery you want and it doesn't matter.

12V fans are fine if you are running only 12 cells.

I am running 2 12v fans on my quark heatsink - I got 35 mins of solid run time and its still holding - but boy does she sing when i plug her into the 5S....

Walter, Mike was saying that running 12v fans from the receiver would not be as effective as running say...5v fans?

Yea, he isn't running them from the reciever, but off the batteries.

I do believe that Darren did that with great success on his Lightning Stadium.

Mounting to the chassis should work fine as long as the surface is VERY flat, free of scratches/pits/bumps, and unfinished (painted, anodized, etc). The only thing that makes me leery is that there is no padding to protect the ESC against jarring. That is why I prefer to add a heatsink to the ESC and then mount that on some type of foam padding at least 1/8" thick.

I can tell you that the fans probably wont last as long at 21 volts than at 12 - but i can tell you this - they move some air :005: - i also have 5 volt fans - Maybe ill use a 12 volt and a 5 volt on my heatsink - Easy enough to do -I had my quark mounted to my custom rear plate with a heatsink mounted underneath and i had some problems with thermaling - i changed my design - used my heatsink and recessed my quark into the back - mounted with thermal paste and 2 fans. I ran 7400mah 5S - thru her yesterday - and i was hard on the trigger trying to get her as hot as i could - she got warm - but it didnt thermal - even after 35 mins of racing on the track. It worked awesome - im redesigning my heatsink to see if i can improve the performance - Overall im happy - For now anyway:cool:

For some reason walter i thought you were running the mgm. Wow, that's too bad about the thermalling probs you had. Good to hear that you got it to go now though. I may add and extra hunk of aluminum to mine as well. i have a huge piece that the quark can fit on, so i will be a dremmeling fool! LOL, but i should be fine with the set up. Those neu's must be awesome motors!
