Good question.
Can you think of any Castle guys who might have recently "defected"??? :dft012:

Hey everyone. Long time lurker, first time poster.
I've got a brushless rustler with numerous upgrades/hop-ups, and after seeing this release, I definitely think Traxxas responded to the mass direction. I'm an active member on the Traxxas rustler/bandit board, and all the upgrades Traxxas put in are the standard ones that everyone on that board recommends. As far as brushless systems, every other post is about what MM system to buy, so it made complete sense for Traxxas to get in on that market.
I'll admit I was fully hoping for an e-revo. However, looking at this and what's been put into it, if I was new to the rc scene and was looking to get a rustler, I'd definitely look at buying this brushless one. I'm sure the price point will come out at much less than what I spent on buying all the upgrades/hop-ups separately.
A couple things I think Traxxas missed is lack of programmability (may not be a big deal to the target audience), what looks like a lack of kingpins instead of the awful stock one-sided screws suspension screws, and better stub axles (these bend all the time with the stock and a brushless set-up). Otherwise, looks like a pretty sweet ride.
I'll still holdout for a brushless e-revo until fall, and then it'll become a winter project!
Chris

I think it's a good thing that traxxas has come out with this system, it may not affect me dirrectly yet since I don't have any true 1/10th cars (e-maxx doesn't count, because it can't use this system) and I don't intend to get any, but I do think it will help brushless/electric in general. People looking to get into rc will go to the hobby shop and when they ask what's the fastest car I can get out of the box that can drive on dirt and grass? Now they won't be told a 65mph Jato is the fastest, but a 70mph electric (not sure how reliable it will be when it's run like that though), and I think that will make people look at electric a lot differently, which can only be good for electric in general.
Most people that don't know much about rc, don't even know that brushless or lipo's exsist, so they still think electric is slow, so then they end up buying some nitro car to bash with (and maybe start racing after a while), because it can do 45mph or whatever out of the box and never even consider electric as an option. So when they're told the can do 70mph with an electric there's a chance they'll want that, and to do 70mph with the new traxxas's they going buy lipo's and have a car with brushless from the start, which is when electric starts to get really good.
So then more people are going to realise what a good electric can do, meaning more brushless and lipo customers, more products coming out for these customers to buy, and hopefully more quality stuff, at more competitive prices. Meaning electric 1/8th's out of the box will have to end up happening whether nitro guys like it or not.
I don't know how long it will take to change the way people look at electric compared to nitro (mainly people that have always assumed nitro is faster, from lack of experience with brushless and/or lipo), but if these cars and velineon system do what traxxas says, then it can only be a good thing for electric rc.

@procharged; yeah, i was thinking in that direction.. :p
Welcome to the forum Ecoli.
I am also worried about the tupperware drivetrain.
The steel idler/diff/diff internals are a very, very good thing though.

If people want detailed specs on the new controller there here
http://www.traxxas.com/products/acce...ries_vxl3s.htm
I noticed that it has a port for sensored motors which is like the gm controllers.
also a training mode that limits power to 50% or something

I know Shawn Palmer has left, but he went to Schumacher USA, I have heard there was a restructuring.
Work because i gotta, play because i wanna
People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

I just had a thought:0 Imagine if Traxxas did an ESC with 6s capability, with the same features as the 3s velineon. you could race a HV 4400 with the sensor pulgged in on 4s, then grab the 12XL and 6s packs and bash the heck out of it

I'm kinda liking those Anaconda tires they carry now. I've got a Stampede sitting on the shelf may have to get pulled out for their system...
