Nice Site

Now thats an RC user friendly site for metal fab work:yipi:. I bet you can get just about anything you want from the boneyard for half what you would pay anywhere else:yes:. Thanks for sharing that one with us.

I take it you have never run Unigraphics then? The only other software close is Catia.

For aluminum try this place http://www.schupan.com/aluminum_home.html

Most of the time you can call them and get "drops" for cheap. Also check their "Boneyard" it changes on a regular basis. I get all my aluminum from them for hobby and work related projects.

For starters I need to find a way to mount 4 motors on an E-maxx tranny.

! ?

JERRY2KONE 12.11.2008 11:47 PM

Why???

Why would you want to go with multiple motors, when it would be much easier and cheaper to go with one huge powerplant??? Whatever you are trying to do I think it has been proven over and over again that simple is better. One single motor over V-twins or even Quad mortors will out perform just about any configuration that you may come up with. Just the weight and balancing issues alone make sense for a single motor setup. Hey we all have our dreams to achieve so you do what you will, but listen to word of reason here. This factor has been discussed several times here in RCM. Good luck with your project.

From what I have gathered I thought multiple motor setups were better suited for torque applications which is what I'm after, not so much as speed. You can only gear down so much. I can't lie the "WOW" factor has a bit of influence in my decision as well.

Definitely.

JERRY2KONE 12.12.2008 03:32 AM

We Know.

Yea the WOW factor is very cool, but we also have to be somewhat realistic with our quests. Don't get me wrong I hope that you conqer the dream and show us something that has not been seen before. Still I hope you know what your asking for. Just thinking of some of the projects that have already been done on here, there are issues that just cannot be overcome. Even with two BL motors the Maxx tranny setup has problems due to the limitations inherant in the design. Putting two more motors on this tranny will surely push those limits and beyond. Finding a way to mount them is the easy part with a little CNC assistance. Getting them to work efficiantly without destroying the tranny and other drivetrain parts will be the real challenge:lol:. Like I said good luck with that:whistle:.

I think using one big, low kv outrunner will provide more than enough torque for you. Something under 1000kv would be a start and hobbycity.com has a nice selection real cheap.

As for the durability issue with the Maxx tranny I plan to use an aluminum case with the ultramaxxed metal gears i already have.

Outrunners were my first consideration but I wasn't too impressed with them. I wanted something that could be swapped out for use in other applications. I've decided to go with Neus, either 1521s or 1527s. What part of H-Town are you from?

What's_nitro? 12.12.2008 08:23 PM

You aren't really going to run FOUR 1527s, ARE YOU??? :oh:

Assuming you do get them to fit, as soon as your finger touches the throttle you will start a magneto-electro-photonic reaction on such a large scale that it tears the fabric of space-time apart for a radius of 10Km around your truck and simultaneously creates various sizes of black holes and/or neutron stars which will implode the universe within 0.00001 seconds, of course killing us all.

Good luck!

just so you guys know my plans have changed, and the aluminum I buy will go into a dual motored truck. you will have to check out my build thread.

What's_nitro? 12.12.2008 08:30 PM

I will!

BL_RV0 12.12.2008 09:46 PM
