Where is everybody getting their aluminum plates to build custom parts? I am looking to build my rustler up here soon, and I would like to build a custom chasis, and flip the tranny around. I was thinking either 3mm or 4mm thick but I am not sure. I'm planning on using a 60mm medusa on 4s so it will be fairly heavy, so im leaning toward a 4mm plate.

If you just Google aluminum plate you can find a number of sources to purchase plate stock from. You can get just about anything you wish from on line sources. Aluminum, Carbon fiber, nylon, hybrid composites, fiberglass, titanium. You name it and it can be bought from on line vendors.

I found a place where a 12x24 sheet of .125(3.175mm) thick 6061 aluminum is $27.
doesnt seem to bad.

If you need it machined i would go to the monster himself or a local machine shop if you have one.

If you need cad work done, im your man

no Im the CAD man...JK, but I do alot of cad work at school and I get tired of my teachers drawings so sometimes I make my own.

What system are you guys using for your cad drawings? I've been running Unigraphics (nx2 nx5) for 8 years. Everything we do is solid models.

I use autocad 2006. its what my school has and I like it, but its the only program I have experience with.

Try www.mcmaster.com for aluminum plate. They have a variety of sizes and thicknesses of all types and ship same day in most situations.

a 1/8 12x24 sheet of 6061 was $45-97 depending on finish.

yeah thats probably where I will end up ordering it from, but first I need to get an esc and motor for my rusty.

I personally LOVE Inventor and Solidowrks over the traditional CAD programs. I Think it wipes the others outa the water

My vote goes to Onlinemetals. I've been buying from them for years since they seem to have everything I need. I use Inventor get ideas out of my head and onto my HDD. It frees up my gray matter for the new ideas!

I take it you have never run Unigraphics then? The only other software close is Catia.

Most of the time you can call them and get "drops" for cheap. Also check their "Boneyard" it changes on a regular basis. I get all my aluminum from them for hobby and work related projects.
