how do you know that vista are trash. yeah you heard....
did have Vista for two years without any issues
BSOD are caused by failed drivers or failed hardware.
advice:

reinstall system
get software like Acronis TrueImage and make system image of freshly installed OS
then start installing all the drivers
after u have all the drivers working make another system image
start installing your applications.
Make final baseline image with working system.

im with wallot ive had vista since it first came out with no issues.. the problem is people who try and screw around with the system not knowing what they are doing...

I ran vista for years with no issues (never mind how it imploded at the end...), and windows 7 is really 90% vista. Vista just had driver issues early on that gave everyone such a bad taste of it. And that's more about third party cooperation then about Microsoft (though their vendor distribution really left little room for companies to really test their new drivers before launch). The other thing that hurt vista was how much underpowered hardware was sold as "vista ready" and packaged with vista that had every bell & whistle on (plus a bunch of junk software) so they ran like dogs, and people blamed vista for it.

On the original topic, how're things working so far?

cant find the TCP/IP settings, i was in the device manager and looked under the card, controller, and adpater and none of them had anything about the TCP/IP.

i guess ill start updating the drivers now......

jokerjustin 01.13.2010 05:21 PM

weird how you dont have tcp settings on your card just do the driver updates and that should fix the problem... if not it is deff a hardware problem

rootar 01.13.2010 05:48 PM

did the driver updates and it is working at the moment but its extremely slow

and i still dont have the tcp/ip settings

rootar 01.13.2010 06:01 PM

i tried plugging in the cable agian and the speed came back so i guess i still have a problem because this laptop is the only one that is being slow.......

jokerjustin 01.13.2010 07:45 PM

speed is something completely separate from the driver problem tho.... slow internet speed can be related to cluttered files or a poor connection

jokerjustin 01.13.2010 07:58 PM

if you need a walk thru on anything else just lemme know

Slow speed might possibly have to do with the router, so I would try at least unplugging it for 30ish seconds, then plugging it back in. That probably won't help, but it's worth a try.

If you really need the wifi and it's just unusable in this condition, then I would suggest either replacing the wifi card in the laptop with a different one if that's possible (I looked up your laptop, and I would hazard a guess that it has a regular mini PCI slot (based on the fact that it has DDR RAM, and I've only ever seen mini PCI express slots on laptops with DDR2 RAM), so you would need a mini PCI wifi card if the chip is not built into the motherboard). If the chip is built in, or if you don't know how to find out, the safe way would be to buy a PCMCIA or Card Bus (like this) (which are really the same as far as I know, so it doesn't matter a whole lot which you buy) wifi card.

Or you could buy a USB wifi adapter (like this. I have one and it works well), but I find them to stick out rather awkwardly on laptops.

Good luck,
Brijar!!!

actaully i found the range settings were jacked with after i had installed the new driver so i turned the power all the way up and the speed came back, although i every now and then it stalls for a second and then goes on like normal......
