Quick Release Battery Conversion
 

Would anyone be interested if this were made? I'm currently in talks with someone (as I don't want to bother Mike) about making one. It uses DZUS quarter turn fasteners to release the battery box from below the car, and there are no connectors to worry about.

What would be the advantages over this setup then say velcro straps?

Oh! I have been thinking up some good ways (or trying to) to quickly release the battery in my Revo 3.3 conversion from the right side. Instead of taking the body off and wasting precious time during the MAIN, I would like for the battery to be lower in the chassis and come out the bottom, but, at the same time the battery will be protected from debris and and hard landing on a larger rock say...

Any ideas?

On your design, next year I would like to get a truggy or buggy (8-T 2.0, or a Hyper 9e) and I would actually love to have something like what you have showed here. Good work man!

What do you mean by 'no connectors to worry about' ? Are you going to integrate the plugs into the unit when pushed in? (Me likes the idea)

Ahhh makes since now for people running longer main. Didnt think about that cause we have 1/8-e classes around here that are shorter so We dont have to run the longer main with the nitros.

Built in plugs would be a awesome feature.About how much is this setup going to be?

I have been thinking of almost exactly the same thing. If you use the hard case packs with female bullets you can put the plugs right in the holder, which will plug in when you drop the battery in.

it would be nice, but what about durability issue? would the battery come flying out? how much faster would it be, i got a battery change in 25 seconds last time

The connectors will be two contact points on either side of the battery box, here's a pic of the battery box:

I hope you can read the red text! It didn't come up as big on Picasa as it did on Paint!

In essence, it will be very similar to the designs used for cordless drills.

I wouldn't get too excited about it being made yet, I still need to find someone to make it for me. I'm hoping a price point could be around the same as the Tekno conversions, though it'll likely be a bit more.


Theoretically, the change should be as quick as turning 2 fasteners a quarter of a turn, pulling the battery out, then placing a new one in and locking the fasteners again. So, hopefully, less than 10 seconds.

I also need to do a bit of testing, to see if the fastening method is reliable. Failing that, I have a friend that I was brainstorming ideas with, and he's come up with a catch mechanism, but it's far more complex, so we'll use that if this fails.
