Slayer to ERevo to ESlayer Conversion Idea...
Hey guys!
I've got a Slayer that is ready to go for BL. All I need to do is buy the RCM motor mount, mount up my Neu, ESC, attach a servo for the F/R Biased Brakes (Center Diff to), and go. BUT.. I was thinking that why not buy an ERevo Chassis, ERevo Motor Mount Asmbly, ERevo BL Tranny, then transfer everything else over to that set up. That way my MMM mounts up nice and neat, my can mounts up nice and neat, and my batt's are protected inside. I thought it was such a great idea, that I decided to purchase all this stuff on eBay, and I got all of it for ghetto cheap. I figured that rather than mess with locking the tranny just to use the F/R brakes, then having to mess with a brake servo, that I would just skip that part, and the CD, and go this route. Since I have an ERBE and a Summit, I've got lots of spare parts lying around for that platform. This chassis will be a little longer than the 2.5, but that's not a biggie. Just wondering if you guys thought this was a good or bad idea? Like something I didn't forsee? I'm sure I'm not the first guy to do this. j |
Aside from the different wheelbase you should be fine. Hopefully you got the center driveshafts as well.
|
Oh yeah... I did get the center shafts as well!
I guess I should note that I'll be running the Slayer arms, buckles, rods, wheels, etc too. It'll be a little wider still, but it won't be as wide as an ERevo with those arms. I'm hoping it still drives like a Slayer rather than an ERevo because I don't like having vehicles that essentially do the same exact thing. |
What body? Wing or no wing? Ive managed to damage a lipo in a erevo compartment, sliding sideways into a pole. I think I've had one configured that way, a slayer with the plastic revo chassis?
|
the sc8 body should be the right size for the erevo length chassis i think but you may want to cross reference the wheelbase of an erevo and sc8....
|
Super Dope Idea Jpop !
|
I'm gonna run a ProLine Slayer body cut for a 2.5 chassis. But I'll just have to relocate a couple holes! The Bondo General Lee! I'll be running wingless. It'll look just like a straight up Slayer only a kiss bigger. That's it. I heard the SC8 and SC10 bodies were the same size, but I dunno. I just might waltz into the hobby store with the truck... so they can follow me around asking questions...wondering how I'm so much smarter then they are? HA!

All the SC bodies are pretty close to each other in width, but wheel base is another story.
SC8 wheelbase-375mm e-revo wheelbase-358 SC10 wheelbase-327mm The pic below is a E-revo with slayer arms and SC8 body. The wheelabse is a little off but close enough to fudge it a little. Funny part about this one, guy didn't like the slayer handling, and hoped the wheelbase and e-revo chassis would help change it. It didn't change anything, so he sold it. http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3.../rccars009.jpg |
That's funny! Guess I was wrong about the SC8 vs SC10 bodies.. well.. the wheel base is diff, but I would have to assume the bodies would be diff too then?
Well.. I can tell you that my ERevo is a hot rocket. Wicked fast and low slung. Handles on rails. I'm expecting the Slayer to handle well, but differently. However, I'm not looking for it to mirror my Erevo either. I want it to handle like a SC truck would handle... and I think it will, despite the chassis change. The Erevo chassis is a little bigger, but I can't imagine the truck being much different than the stock Slayer handling wise. My tires are actually ProLine CrimeFighters I think. Bro? (I bought it from Bondo). heck, I have an ERBE, so I can just set the body on top to get a feel for it. I can tell you this much... that Slayer body looks TITS on my ELST2. A bit too much side exposure, but the body itself? Wicked! I might explore that "studio space" eventually too. |
Dang, you guys are making me miss my converted slayer... I ran buggy badlands on it, but they had way to much side bite and it used to flip, alot!
I like the idea of the erevo chassis and tranny coupled with the slayer suspension and body. Might get some parts together... How does a plett big maxx on 5s with the 2 speed close ratio tranny sound??? Geared for 90 or so in 2nd!!! I have some great street tires for 1/8 buggy banging around... I need to get this house crap finished up so I can get back to rc!!! |
The motor I have for this was predicated on running it on the stock setup with 4s. It's a 1512 2d Neu 2650kv.
I can either gear accordingly and babysit it, or I can put a 1515 2.5d 1650 kv motor in it and still run it on 4 - 6s. What would u guys do? |
Remember the change in tire dia, Traxxas greared the slayer different than the 2.5/ Sure you will be using a erevo tranny just saying you might want the higher kv.

The one in the pic up there was mine. Was a good idea, but even with sway bars, and fiddling with the shocks I just could not get it to handle worth a crap. There is just to much weight up high for something that narrow. Any kind of pace at all and it would roll trying to turn. You will have to use the sc8 body. There is probably 1 1/2" diff in the wheelbase. I ended up selling it, bought a 8ight-t chassis plate for an 8ight buggy, slapped the same wheels, tires, and body on it. It has been twice the truck with really no tuning at all. Here is a pic compared to a slash/slayer body

And the front bumper will not stick out past the body ?? That sucks.
Could always cut the last inch or so off the rear of the body to get it to fit, it'll be all open though ? |
It will, that was just before it was completely finished. An old tamiya plastic bushing inbetween the oval bumper mount and the actual slayer bumper spaces it out perfectly to clear the body. I don't think I have really any other pics left in my bucket of it.
