what do you think of this 1/8 ?

I've been wanting a 1/8 buggy for quite some time. right now is not the time to buy one for me, but I figured it's never to early to read up on them. so, long story short I was perusing around and I saw a 1/8 ofna buggy for sale.

Here's a pic The seller bought it for the engine and is selling it as a roller for dirt cheap, he has no Idea what it was other than ofna made it. After a really long search I finally figured out it was a ofna ultra lx comp. The buggy appears to be just as good as the ofna 9.5 series, any one have input on this?

Not sure if the mount will fit. As far as the buggy itself goes, if you are not going to race it, it will work. Buying an 1/8 scale depends on a couple of things;
1. are you racing
2. parts availability for the one you want
3. $....the better the buggy, the better the price

In my opinion, save up for a really good buggy, even if you are not racing. The higher end ones are a lot better. Although, HotBodies D8 just came out w/good reviews and it is a lot cheaper than Mugen, X-Ray or the MP 9.

The hyper mount will not fit that buggy, but the gtp mount will.

I would try to find a hyper8 buggy. Excellent buggy with a much better build quality than the ultra sereis ofna buggies (which are all the same and made by another mfg for ofna). The diffs in the hyper sereis are better, as is the suspension setup.

I have the same buggy that you pictured, not bad, but I would only buy it if it was 50 bucks or less...

I did some more research an I have come to a major question. what suspension design is better? Pillow ball or king pin and c hub.

In my research I somehow came to the conclusion that PBS was a inferior design in comparison to CHS. But this is not the case, in the past it was the follow through design that made PBS inferior, ( as demonstrated in the pic above) not the concept. Nowadays, you see a more refined form of this suspension. In it's current form it is similar in all respects to the traxxas pbs which has proven it self durable since 1999.

On the other hand many are plagued with popping pillow balls which is a inherit weak spot in the concept. I am not aware of the Hpi Savage's CHS to have such inherit weak spots; why? because CHS is a far more hardy design in comparison.

Another factor to consider though, is that PBS uses less parts and is lighter than CHS. But even with it's weight benefits and ease of use you don't see Xray,Losi, AE or Kyosho with this suspension? So that alone leads me to believe that PBS is not up to the challenge, yet OFNA make's you pay more for this ''inferior'' design?

So the question still remains, which system rises Superior above it's competitor.......

Mugens are PBS as well. I'm not certain it's "inferior" The design of the mugen carriers makes popping a ball out rather hard. It has alot of material around the ball and a thin groove just big enough to allow suspension travel that the screw end of the ball goes through.

I forgot about Mugen. Do they offer a choice in suspension types? or are they just PBS
