Removal of 2 pole rotor magnet? -
03.25.2011, 12:12 AM
Any ideas how to get a 2 pole magnet off the shaft? I am guessing it is glued on, try some heat? I know I do not want to get the magnet too hot, but...
I have a shop press, and not ing to loose, I guess I could press the magnet off... Might shatter though.
Also, where can I get 5mm motor shafts cheap? I know outrunners use them, try ebay?
FYI, the problem is my c50 maxx motor broke the 1/8 portion of the shaft off, and I figured I would remove the magnet and replace the shaft with a 5mm one.
If anyone has a L can feiago or hacker motor or rotor they do not want, it would save me the hassle...

The only ones I have delt with are ones that the shaft has come loose and had to put them back on, but I think you could probably get the shaft hot and see if you can press it off. If it were me I would use a torch on the end of the shaft. I am sure you would have to be careful not to get it so hot that the rotor expands and shatters the magnet.
The Warnings & Cautions discussed in this manual cant cover all possible conditions/situations. It must be understood that common sense and caution are factors which cant be built into this product.

My issue with heating the shaft is that it will expand, and I really want to shrink the shaft, or exand the magnet. Pretty sure you are not supposed to get the magnets over 200f, so I will try to get it up to 180 or so, while it is setup in the press. If I destroy it I do not care, it is useless as is.

Also, be careful how much heat you apply since excessive heat demagnetizes magnets...

I meant shaft. You could try cooling it in the freezer, or some of that cooling spray. I am not sure if that will work, but I am not sure how else to get it loose. Most of the bonding adhesives have a temp well over 200F.

Instead of destroying the rotor, can't you make it fit in a B50 Hacker motor or Feigao 540 s size motor?

He broke the shaft...he's trying to find a way to put the magnet onto a new shaft.
Linc, as I understood the magnets were held on by epoxy. Heat weakens epoxy, as far as I know.

It came out very easily. I used a 20ton press but you could have used a bench vise, the shaft was barely stuck in there.
Now I need to find a source for a 5mm shaft. Any ideas?

Too short to fit a S can. It broke off where the 1/8" met the 5mm shaft, which is level with the ft bearing.

1st gen tekin T8 motors used a 5mm shaft...
I can't be the only one with 3 broken/fixed rotors
EDIT: I just used a vise and the magnet off of said tekin motor to push the hacker one off..
any recommendations on getting it to attach to the tekin shaft?

Jb weld is what I plan to use. It is high heat epoxy. Will have to set all night, but who cares. I would also sand the area of the shaft where the epoxy will go.

Can't you use some 5mm round bar stock for the rotor?
You could heat it up and quench in old motor oil to harden it.
