New Motor Mount Idea...

A generic Nitro to Electic mount - uses nitro hole spacing to the secure mount.

2 piece design like the revo mount with mutiple front to back positioning holes for both long shank and regular pinions / electri-clutch...

This should also work as flux mount if I'm thinking correctly

Make the lower part of the mount offset front to back and reversable?? One end for long shank the other for short.

Depends on the vehicle- look at any revo, truggy, buggy, truck or onroad conversion & there is always a suitable spot for atleast one lipo pack, even if it needs a tray or straps attaching to the chassis.

The problem arises with the nitro mount holes that are drilled in the chassis. Different models have different spacing (length wise and in width) and/or the location relative to the spur gear. Something designed to work in an old school Ofna wouldn't work in an 8ight, an 8ight wouldn't work in a MBX6, and none of those would work in a Savage.

Although my mind is conjuring up something with quite a bit of adjustability that might just work in most if not all. Too hard to explain, gonna have to get it on paper. I think it might end up a tad expensive to machine though

your over-thinking this... most .21\.28\etc motors use the same height/size/etc of mounting hoels. Get a motor to attach to those and your golden.

How about modding the flux motor clamps to make it work? ie; make up a bottom plate for it with countersunk screws going into the motor mount. Drill and tap some holes in the bottom plate to match the existing nitro holes.

Making an e-mount that bolted onto the nitro engine mounts would make things alot less complicated. But it would also raise the motor up quite a bit more than other more traditional e-conversion mounts. I'm pretty sure a 15xx motor is bigger in diameter than a big block nitro motor and would never sit between the mounts like the nitro. Not that this is a concern for everyone, especially budget minded folk.

That's the Fine Design solution to motor mounting. Problem is you need different diameter clamps for different diameter motors. Not always a problem, but it can be, especially if you're looking for a bolt on (no dremel) solution to every application. Which seems to be what the OP was suggesting.

any of Mike's mounts have the spur and motor mounted on the same single piece for a reason. (except revo) Chassis' flex. A motor mount separate from the spur bulkhead is simply an inferior design.

my CEN buggy goes through spur gears a lot faster than my ofna lx1-e. the pinion gears are the same, the spur gears are both plastic, and the motor is the exact same. the only time my ofna chews up a gear is when the motor mount screws come loose. my CEN buggy will chew up a gear occasionally, especially if i am doing some big jumps.

the ofna has a center diff mounted motor mount
the CEN has a chassis mounted 4-5mm (very thick) aluminum angle motor mount.

in my opinion, mike's newer style motor mounts and the elite-rc motor mounts are by far the most durable, effective and precise motor mounts that money can buy. i like the price and looks of mike's mounts better, but i like how the elite-rc mounts are very easy to adjust gear mesh with. to be honest, if mike's mounts and the elite-rc mounts were the same price, i would choose the elite mounts first. that easy gear mesh adjustment is what i really like about them and what i would love to see in mike's motor mounts.

Is it just me or are those elite-rc mounts a losi ripoff?

There's some contraptions getting around now but the more moving parts the weaker it will be generally. The integy mount is laughable

They might be a "ripoff" if they were a lesser design, but the Elite's are better than the Losi mounts. The Elite has a space to put a 5X10 bearing in the monoblock to align and support the shaft. The Elite mount has provision for using either 3MM motor screws or 4MM motor screws. It takes regular socket head screws so you can use a 2.5MM wrench for the 3MM screws and get them tighter than the Losi which uses flat head screws and thus limits you to a 2MM wrench. You can use two screws hold the monoblock in the mount instead of only one with the Losi.

These observations are from owning both Losi and Eelite mounts for the Ten-SCTE. The Elite is a significant improvement, not a ripoff.
