Anyone tried the Losi 1/8 Xcelorin 1300kv motors yet? - 07.31.2010, 12:27 PM

I just acquired one of these 4 pole motors and they are well built.

The specs say 2S to 5S Lipo, but at 1300kv, should handle 6S also.

This motor is headed for duty in either an E maxx or an E Revo.

Has anyone ran these 1300kv motors?

Tell us about your setup and your experience.

Thanks.

i have not used the losi motors before, but what i've heard, they are better than feigao motors, but not nearly as good as neu motors.

the 5s max rating is due to the POS losi ESC that has a 5s max rating.

They say a good mechanic only needs 2 tools - WD40 & Duct tape. If it moves, and its not supposed to, duct tape. If it doesn't move, and its supposed to, WD40.

I heard Losi got a bad name for the quality of their 1/10th stuff.

I'm sure you are right about the ratings being due to their ESC.

Looks like some good quality here.

Same 4 pole configuration as the Neu, Tekin, Castle-Neu, and the Medusa Motors.

Way over-sized bearings. That shaft is 8mm when it passes through the bearings, before being turned down to the 5mm shaft.

The Motor in these pictures is the 1700kv version. My 1300kv motor is the same, just a different wind.

Have a look:

The 1/10 scale stuff is OK, Even the 1/8 motors are pretty decent. It's the 1/8 ESC that are poopy.

I retired from RC, now life is all about guns and long range shooting.

wow that does look like it is well made. Only time well tell though. My coworker has the losi 1700kv system in his losi truggy and the losi esc sucks. On 5s the 1700 motor was really fast so if the 1300kv motor is basically the same it should do all right

This baby will be powered by a Castle Monster ESC.

I'm thinking 6S in an E maxx might be pretty fun to play around with, if I can locate a G4 Gorillamax Chassis.

I have a pair of 6S Kong Power 26C 2600mah packs that should work well ran parallel. They will fit the E maxx battery tray also.

Does anyone know what heatsinks are available for this 39mm motor?

I know that Losi makes one for the 8eight, but I really don't like that one.

Theses motors heat a lot compared to tekins and Castle motors... I suspect them to be too small and not efficient enough for 1:8 scale application.
The ESC quality is even worse !

Inferno VE MMv3 NEU-CC 1515/1Y 4S "Flying machine"

MBX5T Prospec MMv3 NEU-CC 1520/1Y 6S "Overkill Flying machine" ;)

buggies and truggies are harder on motors due to the center diff. most monster trucks can't put as much power to the ground, so the amp draw stays a little lower. this is speaking from experience, as i have a BL buggy, truggy, and 2 MTs.

i think that motor will be great for what you want to use it for, as long as you watch temps and gear for under 45mph.

On a side note..I am liking how all the motor mans are finally allowing us the access to the motors we all want to clean and service
