hydro dipping! - 05.17.2011, 03:24 PM

If you don't know what it is, it is frickin' cool! I got a radio box and light pods for my e5b dipped in a carbon fiber look.

That does look neat? What was the cost?

I wonder if that's what Traxxas uses on some of their CF looking optional parts, or if it's just a sticker...

Seen this on American Chopper when they built the "Money Bike", very cool stuff they're doing now !

What did they charge you to do the few small pieces Harold ?

I retired from RC, now life is all about guns and long range shooting.

A guy on e-bay had been doing 5b parts. When I bought a Rovan 5b kit to complete my e5b I had several new parts I didn't need, and didn't want to bother selling. I traded him these parts for him dipping my parts.

He has about a two week turn around. I will contact him about pricing and his interest in outside work. Anything that can get wet can be dipped!

I'll post my response.

That looks great! How durable is it as far as scratches or peeling?

Saw this process on Orange County Choppers... Interesting stuff.

If I could only draw what I see in my head, then afford to build it, and finaly get to play with it...

Makes me wonder if the "wood trim" and all other accenting features in my dad's '09 Honda Accord is actually wood, or has some wood in it, at all.

(sarcasm).

Quite durable! It won't peel. I just tried to scratch a light pod with the tip of my pocket knife and it took major effort.

Maybe. It's a whole different animal though. I think those that can afford and appreciate custom painting will continue to seek it out. Some do vinyl wraps on custom/show cars, but the creme de la creme is still a custom paint job.

Borrow your dad's car and get a girl to go for a ride. Get some real wood up in that ************.

Oh, and Brian- this is exactly what traxxas' exo-carbon pieces are made with.
